James (Jimmy) Doyle Foresyth, 77, died July 14, 2021, at San Angelo, Texas. The funeral will be Monday, July 19, 2021, 10 a.m. at Myers & Smith Chapel, 301 E. 24th St., Big Spring, Texas, conducted by Reverend Doug Shelley. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery under the direction of Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
Jimmy was born Dec. 2, 1943, in Big Spring, Texas, to Richard (Skeet) Vinus Foresyth and Lois Blackshear Foresyth and was a lifetime resident. He was a graduate of Big Spring High School and attended Howard County Junior College and Texas A & M University. He served in the Army National Guard from 1965-1971 and worked as a surveyor for the Texas Highway Department from 1966-1971 He married Deanna Kay Morris on June 4, 1976 in Big Spring, Texas. He worked for the city of Big Spring from 1971-1981 and was Director of Public Works from 1974-1976, a position his father had also held for 39 years. He then worked for the Howard County Road and Bridge Department from 1981 to 2000 as a heavy equipment operator and as Assistant Road and Bridge Manager.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry, on December 21, 2013, his parents, Richard Vinus on October 20, 1967 and Lois on October 23, 1959. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Deanna of Big Spring, 3 sons and daughters-in-law, James Richard and Linda, granddaughter Jordan and grandson Nick and family of San Antonio, Texas; David James and Denise and grandchildren Stormye and wife Celi, Grace, and Conner of San Angelo, Texas; James Paul and girlfriend Loretta Stercks of Big Spring and grandchildren Breanna and Erin of Odessa and San Antonio, sister-in-law, Jan Foresyth of Big Spring, and two nieces, Jacklyn Swinney of Katy, Texas, and Jana Wright of Big Spring and their families.
He enjoyed traveling, golf, fishing, dune buggy riding, working on old cars and tractors and card games. He was especially fond of John Wayne western movies as well as many of the other old westerns. He and his wife had traveled to all 50 states, exploring them in depth, as well as much of Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean after their retirement in 2000. He was a member of the Western Drifters Good Sam Travel Club of Big Spring for a number of years and a one-time member of the Coahoma Lions Club. He played golf five days a week year-round after retirement and liked to refer to it as his "job". He was an A player, normally scoring the mid 70's even into his 70's.
The family will receive visitors at Myers & Smith Funeral Home from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, July 18, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Big Spring Humane Society, 5710 W. I20, or the Scholarship Fund at Howard College, 1001 Birdwell Lane, Big Spring, TX in care of Julie Bailey.
