Lora Warren Obituary

Lora Warren passed away after her second bout with cancer and several other health complications, on June 17, 2023, at the age of 86.
Lora and her twin sister Liz were born on May 17, 1937, to Ada "Jane" Dabney and Hervey "Pat" Armstrong in Wink. Lora, Liz and their older brother, John, grew up in Van Horn. Lora and Liz loved exploring around Van Horn and walked almost daily to "turtle back or 6 mile peak" even though their mother warned them not to go. Lora and Liz graduated from Van Horn High School in 1955 and then attended Sul Ross State University in Alpine where both twins met theirs future husbands. Lora married George Douglas Warren of Coahoma Dec. 19, 1959. They had two children, Lelan Del and Douglas Gene.
Lora began her teaching career in Monahans, while Doug finished his degree at Sul Ross State University. Next the couple moved to Big Spring for a short time where their children were born. Doug's job transferred the family to Chicago in 1965, but Lora and Doug having both grown up in Texas did not take to the cold winters and moved back to Texas after only 6 months. They then lived in Odessa where they hosted many events. Lora was a gracious host whom all adored.
The family returned to Big Spring in 1972, where Lora soon resumed her teaching career. Being a teacher was an important part of Lora's life, following in the footsteps of her mother. She taught for 3 decades. She did take a break from teaching for her most important job of her life, raising her two sons.
Lora lost the love of her life and husband, Doug to cancer at the early age of 60. After the loss of Doug, Lora traveled with friends and family across the United States, Canada and Europe. She made friends easily, if you were in a conversation with Lora you often found yourself talking about yourself, she never wanted the focus on herself. She was not a complainer no matter her situation. Her many friends near and far will miss her dearly.
Lora enjoyed reading and was always up to date on current events and had firm beliefs in political issues.
She kept her mind sharp by completing the cross word puzzle in the newspaper and by watching Jeopardy religiously. She was very active walking the "mountain" almost every day until she had her first bout with cancer in 2009. Emily, Lora's only grandchild was the apple of her eye. She loved watching Emily play high school tennis, and really watching Emily do anything.
As identical twins, Lora and sister, Liz cherished their times together. They enjoyed long walks on Scenic Mountain in Big Spring and took frequent trips. Lora and Liz were very close often giggling and finishing one another's sentences. It was truly a special bond.
Lora is survived by her son, Lelan and his wife Rhonda of Dallas, her granddaughter Emily and daughter in law Diana of Fredericksburg; nephews, DJ and wife Lana of Austin; John and wife Judy of Ransom Canyon; Ted and wife Rose of Picabo, Idaho.
Lora was preceded in death by her parents, Jane and Pat Armstrong; and her brother, John Armstrong of Van Horn; her husband, Douglas Warren; her son Gene Warren; her sister Liz Parker.
