Douglas Ferguson Obituary

Douglas Gerald Ferguson went home to his Savior Jesus Christ the evening of March 5, 2025. He was born May 11, 1959 to Bill and Erma Ferguson in Hamilton, Montana. In 1968, Doug moved with the family and attended Big Timber schools, graduating from Sweet Grass County High School. Doug never married.

Doug worked with his Dad and brothers, Russell and Justin, as a pilot for Yellowstone Air Service and as a partner from 1992 through 2007. Doug earned his private, commercial and ATP certificates with instrument and multi-engine ratings. He flew Forest Service fire patrol, Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks biologists in addition to charter flights for many years.

Doug loved his parents, flying and family history. He enjoyed reading, tinkering with old cars and helping friends with wild game processing. Doug's favorite hangar cat was Dirty Harry, and he trained him to wait to eat and sit like a dog.

Doug is survived by his siblings Russell (JoAnn) in Livingston, Mary Helen in Oregon, Justin (Yumiko) in Big Timber, Linda in South Carolina and Scott (Evelyn) in Colorado. Doug has many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is planned for June 14, 2025 at 11:00 at the American Legion hall in Big Timber with a luncheon and time of fellowship following.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to The Carnegie Public Library, Hearts and Hands Hospice of Big Timber, The Hospitality House, Sweet Grass Cancer Alliance or the charity of your choice.

A great neighbor and friend.

Doug and I shared many stories about flying and some of the notable passengers he flew. He was a great neighbor and friend and we will miss him. But for now, he has "slipped the surely bonds, and is touching the hand of God." Until we meet again. Radar

Although I didn't know Douglas personally, I wanted to convey my sympathy to the Ferguson family. Brother Justin was a high school classmate of mine. Yellowstone Air provided excellent insect control service to our family farm east of Big Timber, my Dad, KC Jones, always spoke well of their business
