Arnold Dean Yttredahl passed away Friday, March 20, 2015, at Canyon Creek Memory Care.
Arnold was born July 25, 1928, on the family farm. The farm was in McKenzie County, in Elm Tree Township 5 miles north of Charleson, N.D. His proud parents were Amy Ruth Yttredahl and Steven Dean Yttredahl. Arnold grew up in the Charleson area and graduated in 1946, at the nearest high school, which was in Spanish. Arnold served in the U.S. Army. In 1951, he married Myrtle Aileen Van Nurden. Arnold always kept things and himself neat and tidy. He worked as a farmer and in the North Dakota oil fields. This is where his first daughter was born. While in the oilfields he would fly his plane back and forth to the family farm where they lived. After the flood, he moved his family to Williston, where their second daughter was born in 1956. He worked as a lineman and his wife ran a day care center. Arnold then moved his family to Great Falls.
In 1963, there was a flood, which eventually moved them to Billings. Finding his place in the sun, he settled in there for the rest of his life. There Arnold expanded his family with another daughter. Arnold was a man with many talents that ranged from milkman to politics. His life was dedicated to providing for his family. The Big Sky Country also provided him with his many adventures. He liked camping by the rushing streams, hunting for deer and boating. After he retired he traveled the U.S in his motor home. He would visit his family and friends, entertaining frequently with his guitar talents, always telling a joke or two. He was known for his quick wit. In his later years, he would still come out to North Dakota, physically working on his sister's ranch. He loved the river bottoms where he grew up. He is survived by seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.
His 86 years were busy and adventurous until God brought him home. We will say goodbye to this quiet, gentle man on Wednesday, March 25, at 1 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesday at Smith's Downtown Chapel, 925 S. 27th St.
