Catherine Barrett Obituary

JUNEAU, Alaska - Catherine Rae Batt Barrett, 54, of Juneau, passed away peacefully at her family home on Jan. 2, 2006, from breast cancer.
Cathy was born on Nov. 10, 1951, in Billings, to Lois Lanouette Batt and Marvin Batt. She attended elementary and high school in Billings and graduated from the University of Montana in Missoula in 1974. Cathy moved to Juneau in 1974, where she began her 30-year career as a certified public accountant. She married Peter Paul Barrett on Oct. 15, 1977. Her employers included Dyer and Funk CPAs; Elgie, Rehfeld, Mertz, and Barrett, CPAs; and Logan General Tax Practice. Cathy was involved with many non-profit organizations including the Bartlet Foundation, Pioneer Home Foundation, and Gastineau Humane Society. Cathy was also active in the Juneau Rotary and in December her many contributions were formally recognized when she was made an honorary member. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic parish in Juneau.
Cathy is survived by her husband, Paul; and daughters Kristen and Elizabeth of the family home in Juneau; mother Lois Lanouette Batt of Billings; sisters Karen (Paul) Hawkins of Spokane, Wash., and Kelly Batt (Doug Craig) of Billings; and brother Jim (Mary) Batt of Midland, Mich. She was predeceased by her father, Marvin; and her grandparents, Katherine and Henry Batt and Elizabeth and James Lanouette.
In accordance with Cathy's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private memorial service is planned. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the nonprofit organizations Cathy supported over the years or to Juneau Hospice. Alaskan Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
