Helen Kembel Obituary

Helen C. Kembel

September 4, 1924 - September 9, 2025

Helen C. Kembel went to her Eternal Home in Heaven, September 9, 2025.

She was born September 4, 1924, daughter of John Adam and Lydia Pope on the Huntley Project, where she was baptized and confirmed in the Congregational Church. She graduated from HPHS at an early age and began her career decorating windows for the Newberrys Store and then for Marshall-Wells in the accounting division.

She was united in marriage with Carl Kembel, January 21, 1945 by the Rev. Paul Freiburger of the Trinity Lutheran Church. They moved to Miles City, where they raised their two daughters, Vicky and Becky and owned and operated a wholesale Beverage firm. Helen was office manager and bookkeeper for the firm. Small in stature, big in heart and a bit feisty, she ardently believed in Philippians 4:13 "I can do everything through HIM who gives me the strength". It was proven by some of the tasks she dared to undertake. She was blessed with various talents and with her boundless energy shared them with family and friends. Her unwavering faith sustained her through life's trials and sorrows. She was reconfirmed in the Lutheran faith in Miles City and transferred her membership to Trinity Lutheran in Billings in 1973, where she has remained a faithful member since.

She is survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Dan Sorlie; cherished grandchildren, Chet Honstain, Jason and Callie Banfield, Josh and Jackie Sorlie. Adored great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Brianna, Jaxon, Reese, and Brittney. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, CiCi Pope and Donna Kembel, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Carl of 68 years; her first-born daughter, Vicky; her brothers, Alexander and James. Sisters, Sarah, Esther, and Hilda. Precious granddaughter, Michelle.

Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Monday, September 15th, at 11 a.m., with interment at Mountview Cemetery to follow. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or charity of choice.
