Kevin Patrick Shaw

Kevin Shaw Obituary

Kevin Patrick Shaw died unexpectedly at age 44 on Oct. 19, 2004, in Seattle.
The greatest joy in his life was spending time with his family and friends. We remember Kevin as a loving, generous, witty, smart, handsome and athletic young man. His nieces and nephews remember him as a devoted, silly and playful uncle. He lives on in our hearts. Now Kevin's greatest joy is living peacefully in God's presence with his father Bill and sister Christine.
On Dec. 23, 1959, Kevin's birth was a blessing to his parents Patricia E. (Fitzgerald) and William "Bill" T. Shaw, and his sister Colleen, in Milwaukee. In 1962, Kevin's father Bill died. In 1965, his mother Pat married Richard E. "Ed" Shaw and the family moved to Billings. Later, the family celebrated the births of Thomas and Christine.
Kevin grew up and attended schools in Billings and continued his education at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., graduating in 1982 with a BS in Accounting and became a CPA.
He began his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Seattle. He also worked at Seattle Holdings and later became Chief Financial Officer for Spot Bagel Company. About 10 years ago, Kevin established his own executive recruiting business, Kevin Shaw & Associates, LLC.
Kevin lived in Seattle for 20 years. He was active in supporting causes such as Greenpeace and The Nature Conversancy. He was also generous in supporting the many charitable and philanthropic organizations with which his friends were involved. He loved attending theater and classical music performances. Kevin studied piano and violin as a child and had returned to studying piano as an adult. He enjoyed exploring Seattle's art scene and was enjoying becoming acquainted with some of the Northwest's noted artists.
Kevin is survived by his parents Pat and Ed Shaw; sister Colleen, her husband Gary Brester and their children Erin and Kyle; brother Tom, his wife Colleen Shaw and their children Sarah and Tommy; brother-in-law D.J. Gransbery; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased in death by his sister Christine Shaw-Gransbery; grandparents John and Helen Fitzgerald and William T. and Clara Shaw; and numerous aunts and uncles. Kevin is also survived by his many close and dear friends.
Contributions in Kevin's memory may be made to The Nature Conservancy at (206) 343-4345, ext. 366.
A memorial service will be held at Smith's West Chapel, 304 34th Street West, at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, with Father John Houlihan of St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral officiating. Burial of Cremains will follow in the Terrace Gardens Cemetery. Smith's West Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

I woke up this morning and well you were on my mind. Not to say that is not always the case. Some days are just hard that way you know. Things here are going well but they would be better with you in my life but alas you are no longer. I will continue to be strong and loving until I see you again.

Kevin:

You were a "brilliant" person that touched and influenced everyone that knew you. I feel lucky to have known you in college, but feel much regret for not keeping in touch since. I know you were looking down and smiling yesterday, knowing that you brought all your friends together again. Even if we didn't know each other, we all had something in common. Thanks for sharing your smiles, jokes and wisdom. I will never forget you.

My "Kevin story": Kevin was my roommate for part of our college years. One year he traveled with me to my parents house in L.A. for Spring Break. It was sunny and a nice change from the snow of Spokane. Kevin, after returning from a run, was so excited about being able to pull an orange from a tree and eat it while he was running down the sidewalk - something I was surrounded by all my life but never appreciated. Kevin found a way to see these things everyday as he loved life.

Kevin,

My heart goes out to your family, such a great loss for them. You were an excellent friend and roommate at Gonzaga, I carry with me the positive memory and strength of friendship. The miles apart, the years away, and leaving of this world, will not erase your influence on my everyday life. I see his brown Plymouth Duster and taco bell hat around a great smile and laugh. As freshmen, Kevin and I talked about our fathers leaving this world so young. To know Kevin is with his father is a small light in this tragic event.

Kevin,

You have been my best friend, confidant, and so much more, for a long time now. We shared many wonderful journeys, challenged each other's mind and heart and taught each other about many levels of life. The pain of losing you is tremendous now, but I would never choose to forgo this pain for even a small fraction of the love and joy you added to my life. Journey well my friend knowing that your presence shines brightly in my heart - now and forever. Come back to visit often.

Dear Kevin,

The endless amount of love in the world could be found in your eyes. The world is a better place because you were in it. You infected those around you with the joy, laughter and passion you emitted everyday. Your legacy will never be forgotten, and those of us who had the privilege to be touched by you, Kevin, will never lose sight of the person who brought out the best, and strongest characteristics in each of us. The memory of your life’s strength and determination should be a tool in all of our lives everyday. Thank you for your love and encouragement. I will carry it with me for the rest of my life.

Kevin, I know you know how much your Aunt Rosie loves you. You walk into a room, and your wit and humor are captivating. Our whole family shares the great loss of your physical presence among us, but know we will all be together one day. Our memories are precious.

You were a great friend in Junior high, only some short 30 years ago, it seems too soon when the surviors remain and those short 30 years, you wounder why after school everyone goes off into this vast world and as busy as we are gaining success, somehow we forget those we laughed and shared times with, until sad times as this comes and you remember just how few of years has actually gone by. Thanks for your friendship then, never to be forgotten. Mark and Deb Christensen.
