Richard Meidinger Obituary

Richard Cy Meidinger

December 8, 1943 - January 27, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Richard "Dick" Meidinger, who left us on January 27, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on December 8, 1943, in Bismarck, North Dakota, Richard was the middle son of Jean and Adolph Meidinger. He spent his formative years in Wolf Point, Montana, where he developed a strong sense of duty and service.

He started his law enforcement career in the Roosevelt County Sheriff's Office and was later appointed as a U.S. Marshal. A promotion to Chief Deputy took him from Billings, Montana, to Fargo, North Dakota. His 35 years of commitment to justice and public service was unwavering. After retiring from the U.S. Marshal Service, he resided in the Seattle area where he was employed by the IRS for ten years. Richard ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing an asphalt maintenance business where he worked closely with his two sons, Rob and Greg.

In his retirement years, Richard settled in Beach, North Dakota, with his beloved partner, Ann Swanson. There, he embraced the joys of golfing, bird hunting, and spending quality time with his family. He took pride in maintaining an impeccable yard and was famous among family and friends for his homemade pickles. Richard cherished the companionship of his dogs, treasured moments at the family farm, and enjoyed winters in Arizona. Above all, he valued time spent with his loved ones.

A devoted father, Richard's pride and joy were his sons, Rob and Greg, and his grandsons, Brock, and Cole, who were the center of his world. He cherished his relationship with his daughter-in-law, Natasha. He also embraced his stepchildren and their families as his own: Lisa Ellis, Christina Carillo, Cynthia Schneider, Lynn Puckett, Allen Swanson, Jon Swanson. To all who knew him, Richard was a mentor, friend, and a steadfast source of strength, always ready with wise counsel or a helping hand. His generosity and kindness left an indelible mark on many lives.

Richard is survived by his sons, Rob and Greg; his daughter-in-law, Natasha; grandsons, Brock and Cole; and his brother, Roger. He is also remembered by his cherished partner, Ann Swanson, and her family, as well as the families of his stepdaughters, Lisa, Christina, and Cynthia. He was preceded in death by his parents; his older brother, Bobby; and his wives, Gwen and Rose.

Services to honor Richard's life will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Beach, North Dakota. A vigil is scheduled for Friday, February 7, at 6:00 p.m., followed by a gathering at the Beach Community Center. A memorial mass celebrating Richard's life will take place on Saturday, February 8, at 11:00 a.m.

Richard Meidinger's legacy of service, love, and dedication to family and community will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
