PRYOR - Our beloved Saraphine DeCrane Sanchez left this world on July 30, 2010, surrounded by her family. She was the youngest child of Richard Thomas DeCrane and Violet Josephine Birdinground. Sara was born on Jan. 15, 1956. She attended St. Charles Mission School, Edgar High School and Plenty Coups High School. She married Cristobal Sanchez, Sr. in Center, Texas, on May 15, 1987. They made their home in Center until 2003 when they moved to their new home in Pryor. Their children include Violet, Lusia (Richard Crow, Jr.), Christobal (Hannah), Jr., Charla, and Edward Sanchez. Her precious grand-babies, Trevor Crow, Haden Sanchez and Braxton Real Bird.
Shoopa awa axah dahsh (Went around-the-world-four-times) was given to her by Benito Stewart. She belonged to Ties-in-the-bundle clan, and was a child of the Sore Lip-Greasy Mouth/and Whistling Water clan.
Sara spent her days as a homemaker caring for her children. She had a great sense of humor and wit. She loved watching and supporting her children as they participated in their sporting and schooling events. She was especially proud watching her son, Cris, win this year's Ultimate Warrior Challenge title. She loved spending time with cousins and friends. She had many favorites.
Sara loved all her nephews and nieces. Her love of children led her to help raise Charlie Goes Ahead-Chase, Kolen Good Luck, Jermey Keo and Anthony Lopez. She was very proud of her godchildren, Savannah Sinquah, Greg Archambault, and Richard DeCrane.
She is survived by her siblings, Dorothy (Max, Sr.) Spotted Bear, Victoria Stewart, Zelda, Constance, Thomas (Alma), Anna DeCrane and Franklin Beck; her paternal uncle and aunts, Charles DeCrane, Gloria Cummins and Agnes Pretty Weasel; her maternal uncles and aunt, Clifford and Alex Birdinground and Verna Pease.
She is preceded in death by her father; mother and stepfather, Edward Beck. Her paternal grandparents, Alexander Crane and Sara (High Weasel) Goes Ahead. Uncles, Vincent, Sr., Sylvester, and Clem Goes Ahead; aunts, Mary Dawes, Rose Turns Plenty, Josephine Whiteman, and Beluah Stewart. Her maternal grandparents, Sampson Birdinground, Sr. and Georgia Horse. Uncles, Matthew Stops, Ben Cloud, Adam, Andrew, Gilbert, Glenn, Sampson, Jr. Birdinground and Chester Deputee; aunts, Gretchen Stewart, Melda Goes Ahead, Constance and Mary Birdinground, Evelyn Old Elk, Edna Etheridge, Agnes Holds, Louise Three Irons, Samona Martin, Joy Brien, and Rosebud Bull Tail.
Viewing will begin on Saturday, July 31, at 3 to 9 p.m. Vigil services will be held on Sunday, August 1, at 7 p.m. and Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 2, at 10 a.m. with burial at Catholic cemetery.
All services will be held at St. Charles Mission church in Pryor.
