Sue Dutton Obituary

Sue Dutton, 95, passed away peacefully of natural causes on February 9, 2024 at her home in Thousand Oaks, CA. Sue is survived by her daughter Diana and sons Phillip, Guy and Todd, along with 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and cherished daughters-in-law (Laura, Susan and Jill) and son-in-law (Fred). She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Larry Dutton, grandson Brett Dutton, parents George and Inez King, brother Reuben King, and sister Dianne Kousoulos.

Sue was born on February 3, 1929 in West Hollywood, CA. As a teenager she relocated with her family to Wapiti, Wyoming in 1945 and attended Cody High School where she met her future husband Larry. While living in Wapiti, she helped her parents run the Wapiti Lodge which was a year-round sportsman retreat for avid hunters, fishermen and riders. Sue and Larry were married in 1947 in Cody after which Larry joined the Army in 1950 to serve in the Korean Conflict. Larry served his country proudly and was honorably discharged in 1953 at which time Sue and Larry relocated to Los Angeles and began raising their four children. Friends and family in both Cody and Los Angeles will forever remember the many lavish backyard BBQ parties elegantly hosted by Sue and Larry.

While living in Wyoming Sue developed a love of nature and the great outdoors. She enjoyed camping, riding horses and fishing with her father and brother. Later on, she developed a love of cats and had many furry companions during her lifetime. Although Sue maintained a very busy life she found time to master both the piano and painting and received many honors and awards for her artistry. She so loved her 'baby grand' piano! She was also an expert Bridge player, irrepressible rock hound, and lover of flowers, Pacific Coast beaches, and movies. Sue planted and maintained the most beautiful gardens in Cody and Los Angeles, and could be seen picking "those pesky weeds" at any time and day. Sue was a very warm, kind and loving mother, wife and friend to all. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A heart-felt thanks to the many caregivers and nurses who cared for Sue over the past several years, and a special thank-you to Hope who provided such tender full-time care for the past two years. Sue will be buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Cody WY next to her husband. Services and interment will be private.

Phil and I grew up across the street from each, many years of hijinks ensued. But it didn't matter where we were or what was going on, she'd put her pinkies to the corners of her mouth and WHISTLE and we knew it was to head back home! Good times. Larry and Sue were as much parents to me as my own, and vice versa. Miss then both.
