Timothy Andrew Hanson was born on Dec. 16, 1960, in Buffalo, to Ron and Clara Hanson. Tim grew up and attended school in Buffalo, graduating from Buffalo High School in 1979. Following high school, Tim attended the University of Wyoming, where he received a bachelor of science in Secondary Education. He later received a master's degree in Counseling from the University of South Dakota. Tim was married to Kathy Hayes on June 21, 1986, in Onalaska, Wis., and they returned to Gillette to make their home. After they were married, Tim began teaching for the Campbell County School District, and later became a guidance counselor at Campbell County High School, where he worked until the time of his death.
Tim was an active member of the community and was involved in many local organizations. He was an avid sportsman, whether it be elk hunting on the mountains, bird hunting on the plains or fly fishing on the rivers throughout Wyoming and Montana; he enjoyed coaching at Twin Spruce Junior High and volunteered his time coaching youth sports. Tim enjoyed refereeing basketball and made many friends doing so.
Tim was a devoted and loving husband, father, son and brother, and a great friend to many. He loved living life and lived each day to its fullest. He especially loved spending time on the Big Horn Mountains, where he was building a cabin for his family. Tim will be deeply missed by his family, friends and students.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy of Gillette; two sons, Taylor Hayes Hanson and Doyle Andrew Hanson, both of Gillette; his parents, Ron and Clara Hanson of Buffalo; one brother, Dan Hanson, and his son and daughter, Kade and Kylee Hanson of Buffalo; one sister, Tonia Squires and her daughters, Balaun and Tyffani Squires of Buffalo; his paternal grandmother, Ruth Hanson of Buffalo; his extended Hayes family; and his many wonderful friends.
