Hello,

We apologize for being so late in expressing our deepest condolences to you and your family. We want you to know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this holiday season and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Donnie R. Belser US Army Captain.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,

CPT Belser was the logistics leader of his transition team. He was responsible for taking care of the supply, maintenance, and transportation needs of his own team, as well as training the Iraq Army in these skills. On FOB Warhorse he would come by my office once a week or so to take care of business and shoot the breeze. He did a great job taking care of his team. We talked about family and work. He was a kind old soul, very respectful, very mature. As I sat in the safety of the FOB and got the news of his death it was paralyzing. I felt guilty for surviving while, Donnie with a family, paid the ultimate price. I wanted to let his family know that his memory does live on in all of us who knew him.

Captain B, Its been 10 years for me to say anything to you except in my own mind, I can remember the morning of that day like it was yesterday. we discussed motorcycles like we always did. that morning wasn't unusual we all getting ready , loading ammo, water and food. CPT B was across the way from our CHU (container housing unit). we often would discuss his son and my son riding on the bike of each other motorcycles when we would return home, but that never did happen. I have struggle with this for 10 years. CPT B you are missed daily bro. may you RIP. The fight continues.

Donnie,

This is the first time I've been able to write in your guest book. It's not because I did not want to; I just couldn't. There isn't a day that I don't think about what happened in Bacqubah, Iraq (10 years ago today). We were both young Captains with families. You were an awesome human & an exceptional Army Officer. Your sacrifice has not been forgotten (and it never will). We lost a lot of good men during that tour (2006-2007) and each loss was tough. I was emotionally and mentally devastated during your Memorial Service at FOB Warhorse. It's just a day that I'll never completely move on from. I pray that your family is doing as well as possible and I assure you in word and in deed, I'll never let your name or memory fade. God Bless you, your family & may you rest in peace.

Donnie as I sit here and remember the short time we spent together in Iraq, I think of all the things we did together to try and help the people of Iraq. I constantly see that horrific day over and over again. The look in your eyes as we tried to save your life. To know that you fought for you life as long as you did, it showed me how strong of a man you were. I will always remember you and wear my bracelet to show the world how special you were.

I was looking up Donnie Belser, whom I was stationed with in Hohenfels, Germany back in the 90's, and found this notice.

First, I was sad to see such a outstanding young man lost. Second, if Donnie Sr. is who I think he is it adds even more weight to the loss.

I didnt' know Cpt. Belser but if he is the son of the man I know he must have been a good and fair man.

My thoughts to you and your family.

To Donnie's Family,
I was on another team serving alongside Donnie and on the same mission Feb 10th. I will never forget how I felt when I heard he was hit and my reaction at his memorial. He was a friend to everyone he met. Always quick with an encouraging word and smile he was the constant optimist. The rest of of our time in Iraq was not the same without him. His dedication to his children was incredible and an example I hope I can someday live up to. I still wear his name on my wrist and will never forget him. May god protect you and always watch over you.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

I had the honor of going on my last combat mission with Capt Belser. I remember him well. He was an outstanding soldier. He helped me through one of the hardest missions, and days in my life. His sense of humor under pressure was the thing I remember most about him. He some how managed to get people to laugh, even when the situation wasn't good. I will always remember him, even though I spent only a short time working with him. He will not be forgotten.

It's kind of weird to read all of the entries for Cpt. Belser. I did not get a chance to know Cpt. Belser...I only new Donnie Belser. Just as he never got a chance to know me as SSGT Patterson, he only knew me as Toya. Me and my sisters, Gloria and Tequila went to Saks High School with Donnie. I was in the band with him. It does not suprise me by what I read. Alot of times, when someone passes, people say good things about them because that is the right thing to do. Every single thing that I have read, confirms what I knew growing up with him. Even in high school Donnie was someone that you could rely on for anything...absolutely anything. He was a wonderful person. He had a wonderful spirit and a contagious smile. Mentally, he was older than his years. He always made me laugh. Even in a drama filled high school, he always managed to keep the drama at a minimal. After high school, I did get a chance to see Donnie again. He was his usual self, down to earth, positive and smilling. After that, every time I would come home to visit, I would want to stop by and ask his parents how he was doing...and how could I contact him to say hello. I never got a chance, and that is a big regret. Words cannot express how I felt when I found out about Cpt. Belser. I cried, but then I smilled because I have no doubt, that he is in a better place. I am truly, truly sorry for your lost...Donnie was a wonderful person, a true angel on earth. Mrs. Cpt. Belser, I never got a chance to meet you, but I have no doubt that for Donnie to make you his wife, you have got to be a wonderful woman. Mr and Mrs Belser, you raised a beautiful son. Your entire family will forever be in our prayers.

Hey Marshawn, Aunt Phoebe, and Uncle Donnie- Just wanted you all to know that I REALLY, REALLY love you and I am so very sorry about little Donnie- as the family called him. But in my eyes- there was nothing little about him. He was a great cousin with a big heart. I pray each day that GOD continue to make us strong. The only way we will be able to stay strong is by the help of the Lord and the help of each other. May God continue to bless our family and we continue to pray for the soldiers that are still fighting. Pray that this all will end and no other family will have to go through what we are going through. We will all miss him. But his memory will never be forgotten!!!!

CPT Belser was a man I was very glad to know- always smiling, hard working, fun, extremely caring about his soldiers which made him a such a great XO for Bravo 299th FSB. I am extremely proud to have served as his Operation NCO for our tour in Iraq. When I got the word to day from SGT Monique Usher that this great men had died, I was at a lose for words. My prayers go out to his family- and I hope they know he was doing what he loved to do best- leading his troops and soldiering like none other. God Bless CPT Donnie Belser.

To the Family of CPT Donnie Belser:

CPT Belser was a great leader and an even better friend. Even when things were in chaos CPT B stayed cool. Let us not frown now in a time of hardship but smile and enjoy the life that we lived with him. Know that God has called him home be relieved that he is in a better place. God Bless you.

Forgive my late entry. I learned the sad knews of CPT(P) Belser as I arrived in Kuwait. My heart was deeply saddened - for I knew this man to be one full of life and always smiling. He was also a very competent officer.

I was stationed with him at Fort Riley for just a few short months when he deployed.

To Mrs. Belser: May the Lord comfort you in your loss. The memories of meeting you and playing with your children at the MTT graduation will always make me smile.

My deepest sympathy go out to the Belser family for the loss of your husband, father, and son. I served with Sergeant First Class Donnie Belser from Anniston, Alabama at 2nd Battalion, 35th Field Artillery at Fort Stewart, Georgia from 1985 to 1986. I knew SFC Belser to be a great man, soldier, and leader and it shows in the legacy that has been left by his son, CPT Belser. May God bless you all and continue to give you strength each day.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history…they pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

I did not know Donnie but my son, Paul was born in Jacksonville and he spent most of his 23 years there. I was a teacher at Anniston and Oxford high school for a total of 14 years. My son died in Taji on November 2nd and when I see Alabama as their home state and espcially that area my heart aches. We brought Paul home to Calhoun County. My heart goes out to you. If you need to talk I am around....

May God give you strength.
