Our father, Alfred Reule, 84, died March 3, 2000, in Spanaway, Wash. He had only recently been told how sick he was and that his time with us would be short. Funeral services for Dad will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jeff Tengesdal officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, with military rites by VFW Post 1326.
Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home, and will continue at the church one hour before services.
Dad was born Aug. 15, 1915, in Sheridan County, to John and Rosie (Goehring) Reule. He was raised on a small farm near Denhoff, and was educated in Sheridan County. During World War II he served 5 years in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Fourth Cavalry from Ft. Meade, S.D. He rose to the rank of Tech 4 and spent 11 months in the European Theater. After the war he returned to his beloved North Dakota.
Dad worked in many of the area clubs and was well known in his hometown of Bismarck. His most recent job was the manager of the Knights of Columbus.
Wearing his characteristic bow tie, he was a happy, smiling face behind the bar, always ready with a quick one-liner for anyone who happened to be listening. He was a lifetime member of American Legion, VFW, Elks and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
He was married to two wonderful women in his life, Hazel H. Davis and Theresa Hulm. There were many good times shared and a lifetime of memories.
Dad will be missed by everyone who knew him and especially his family, Diane and Steve Brandsrud and their sons, Seth, Sam and Michah, SGM Ronald and Crystal Reule and their children, Ryan, Janelle, Megan and Alex; his brothers and sisters, Adeline and Orville Schindler, Floyd and Gloria Reule, Melvin and Marge Reule, Ella Schutt, Delores and Don Kludt; and his adopted family of Hulms and Sandaus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rosie; his brothers, Chester, Herbert and Albert; and his sister, Edna.
