Bernice H. Rehling, born on August 28, 1932, in Hazen, North Dakota, peacefully passed away on June 20, 2025. She was a beloved member of her community and is remembered for her warmth, kindness, and commitment to family and faith.
A funeral service to celebrate Bernice's life will take place on July 1, 2025, at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Bismarck, North Dakota, visitation at 10 a.m. and the service beginning at 11 a.m. To view the service livestream, click this link

Following the service, she will be laid to rest at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery in Mandan at 2 p.m.
Bernice graduated from Hazen High School in May of 1952, carrying forward the values of education and perseverance throughout her life. Her legacy is one of love, dedication, and community service, and she will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
On September 21, 1952, Bernice married her beloved husband, Walter, and together they raised five children: Nancy, Bryan, Cindi, Steven, and Shari. Bernice's devotion to her family was evident in every aspect of her life, and she cherished the time spent with her children, nurturing their growth and supporting their endeavors.
Bernice devoted twenty years of her life as a homemaker, creating a loving environment for her family. In addition, she worked as a secretary for her husband, Walter Rehling, during his time as an insurance agent with State Farm Insurance.
An active member of her community, Bernice was involved with several organizations, including the American Legion, VFW, and Germans from Russia, reflecting her deep-rooted commitment to service and connection with others. Her faith was central to her life, and she was a dedicated member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, where she fostered numerous friendships and supported her church community.
Bernice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter; parents, Ed and Christina (Herrmann) Gallwas; four infant sisters; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elsie (Bill) Nickel, Hulda (George) Hlebechuk, Bertha (Arnold) Kilber; brother, Fred (Dorothy) Gallwas; brother-in-law, Leonard Corneliusen; grandson, Branden Rehling; one nephew and two nieces.
She is survived by her children, Nancy (Wayne) Eggert, Dickinson, Bryan (Donna) Rehling, Eureka, Calif., Cindi (Jim) Bechtold, Bismarck, Steven Rehling, Bakersfield, Calif. and Shari (Greg) Zeis, Bismarck; grandchildren, Michelle (Ben) Herrly, Mike Eggert and Marc (Sonya) Eggert, Jasmine Huffman, Lonyx Landry, Jermey Bechtold and Jason Bechtold, Heather (Doug) Julian, Jennifer (James) Willis, and Lexi Zeis and Mikayla Zeis; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Esther (Gallwas) Corneliusen; sister-in-law, Olga (Rehling) Mann; and many nieces and nephews.
