Eldon Leach Obituary

NEW SALEM -- Eldon Leach, 68, New Salem, died Dec. 24, 2003, at a Glen Ullin care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, New Salem, with the Rev. Loren Strum officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, New Salem.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, and will continue for one hour prior to the services at the church.

Eldon Leach was born Oct. 3, 1935, at New Salem, the son of Clayton and Mollie (Carrick) Leach. He was raised on the Carrick homestead near Bluegrass. As a young man, he worked for the Peavy Company of Minneapolis, running and managing rural grain elevators. In 1970, Eldon moved back to the family homestead to help run the family farm after his father became ill. Also in the early 1970s, he began working for Rolin Manufacturing in New Salem, running the metal lathe for 20 years. On June 12, 1982, Eldon married Bonnie Groce in Medora.

He found enjoyment in gardening, spending many summers growing, canning and freezing vegetables for the winter and sometimes years to follow if they were not given away to various family members. Eldon also liked to fish and write poetry.

Bing had a great sense of humor, often teaching life lessons through a comedic antidote. He loved to spend time with his children, stepchildren, grandchildren and step-grandchildren, often winning many games of cards and telling many "fish" stories in the process. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Eldon is survived by his wife, Bonnie, New Salem; his mother, Mollie Leach, Glen Ullin; his children, Rory (Ann) Leach, White Bear Lake, Minn., and Micky Leach, Santa Fe, N.M.; his stepchildren, Michael (Denise) Groce, Mandan, and JoLynn (Gordon) Ennen, Mandan; his granddaughter, Allyson Leach-Heid, Albuquerque, N.M.; his step-grandchildren, Paul and Kenny Groce and Mandi (Kenny), Karen and Calsi Ennen; his sister, Jane Gerdes, Moorhead, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clayton Leach.
