Lyle E. Morast
BISMARCK - Lyle E. Morast, 80, Bismarck, left this world Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at a local hospital. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at DaWise-Perry/Mandan Crematory, 4211 Old Red Trail, Mandan, with Rev. Dale Nabben officiating. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. There will be no viewing, as cremation has taken place.
Lyle was born April 26, 1942, at Zap, ND to Edwin and Hilma (Olson) Morast. He was raised and educated in Zap and Halliday, ND. Lyle attended a year of junior college in California, then joined the Navy ending up in the Seabees-MCB1, a Construction Battalion whose motto is "We Build, We Fight". After his Seabees discharge, he worked in the heart of Boston and lived in Rhode Island practicing surveying. His marriage to Grace Bergden resulted in the births of daughters Gwen, Melodie and Lyla.
He moved back to ND and started Lyle's Excavating in Beulah, eventually going into business with Vern Stuhlmiller as Do-Mor Inc. He married Carol Nagel on June 28, 1996, adding Krysta, Ryan and "special daughter" Heather into the family. They made their home in south Bismarck where Lyle loved to cruise around cutting lots of grass and helping the neighbors. After 35+ years Lyle eventually sold his business to Buffalo Concrete. Being unable to sit back and enjoy retirement due to his hard-working nature, he continued to do surveying, bidding, and working with the guys, which was what he loved. Lyle and his crew took on jobs that involved knowing the underground in Burleigh/Morton County, how to get equipment in and out of tight spots, educating new engineers on what would work in North Dakota using schematics drawn in New York, California and Phoenix and said a lot of prayers. He fixed many sewer breaks and survived many OSHA inspections. He loved his and Carol's Friday the 13th trips to Prairie Knights, secretly loved pets (especially Topaz), all sports (the Vikings), collecting coins and was proud to be a past member of the Seabees and Shriners, current member of the Eagles and board member of the Capital City Coin Club.
He is survived by his wife Carol; daughters, Gwen Comeau, Melodie (Todd Fetzer) Morast, Krysta Kosharek, and Lyla (Mike) Lane; son Ryan Nagel; "special daughter" Heather (Andy) Taylor; grandchildren Sky Husebye, Alex Nagel, Devon Comeau, Jordan Comeau (Luis), Steve "Jeeves" Goetz, Ariella Fogel, August and Kaya Kosharek, and Shiloh Nagel; great-grandchildren Jaxson Rosenberry, Emma Nagel, and Ayden Engness.
He was preceded in death by his previous wife Grace; his parents; brother, Bruce; and many of his extended family.
Arrangements are entrusted with DaWise-Perry / Mandan Crematory, Mandan, North Dakota.
