Mitchell Helm
Mitchell W. Helm, 63, of Athens, Alabama passed away Sept. 5, 2021. A graveside service will be held Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021 at 2 p.m. at the McClusky Cemetery with Pastor Matt Thompson officiating. In the event of inclement weather, services will be held at St John's Lutheran Church. All are welcome and the family would like everyone to join them after at the Fellowship Hall at St. John's Lutheran Church.
Mitchell was born Nov. 4, 1957 in Bismarck; son to Walter and Marilyn (Reiser) Helm. He was raised on the family dairy farm south of McClusky, ND and eventually moved to Washburn where he worked as a mechanic at Farmers Union Oil Co. In 1988 Mitchell and his former wife Kristie Klatt moved their family to Athens, Alabama. There he continued to work as a mechanic and in 2008 he bought a business; naming it Helm's Garage. Mitchell enjoyed cooking and collecting model cars. The joy of his life was spending time with his girls and grandchildren.
Mitchell is survived by his four daughters, Margaret and Al Graham (Huntsville, Ala.), Megan Parker (Athens, Ala.), Marrin and Jason McCaleb (Athens, Ala.), and Marie and Lance Sims (Athens, Ala.); eight grandchildren, All'wyn and Julien (Margaret), Makenzie and Malachi (Megan), Nathen and Thea (Marrin) and Tyler and Riley Ann (Marie); two sisters, Connie and Dallas Pfennig (McClusky, ND) and Paula and Ben Johnston (Sykeston, ND); one niece, Miranda Howe; three nephews, Travis Pfennig, Jonah Johnston, and Brian Johnston.
Mitchell is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Marilyn Helm.
