Sarah Lund
Grandma fell asleep and woke up in heaven. Sarah B. Lund, 106, Bismarck, died March 1, 2009, at home. Cremation has taken place and graveside services will be held at a later date.
Sarah B. Budeau was born Sept. 17, 1902, in Romania, to Samuel and Solomina (Sulz) Budeau. The family arrived in the United States in 1906, and they settled in the Anamoose and Bergan areas.
Sarah married Glenn Lund on July 9, 1926, in Harvey. She worked for NW Bell Telephone Company in Harvey and Fessenden. She was Chief Operator in the Harvey office until 1961, when NW Bell converted to dial. While in Harvey, she was active in Royal Neighbors and VFW Auxiliary.
They moved to Bismarck in 1961, where her husband died March 9, 1984.
Sarah was active in both senior and regular bowling leagues, Trinity Lutheran Church and the Telephone Pioneers. She enjoyed her volunteer work at Medcenter One. Sarah embraced life and took many trips throughout the United States and Canada. Her favorite vacation spot was Mackinac Island, Mich. She helped many of her friends that had disabilities so they could go with her on trips.
Sarah suffered a stroke in 1997, but recovered well enough so she was able to live in her own home where she continued her gardening know-how and her family feasts of strudels. She spent several winters with her daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Lenny Miller, at their winter home in Las Vegas. In 2004, she went to live with her grandson and his wife, John and Gayle Miller.
She is survived by her daughters, Helen Miller, Mandan, and Marilynn Olson, Woodinville, Wash.; her son, Charles, Monroeville, Pa.; six grandchildren, Marcia (David) Huey, Gig Harbor, Wash., John (Gayle) Miller, Bismarck, Lynn Olson, Seattle, Kari Olson, Brooklyn, N.Y., Vickie (Dan) Sheehan, Elkton, Va., and Wendy (John) Nolan, Fairlee, Vt.; eight great-grandchildren, Sara (Chad Lau), James and Jon Huey, Cori and Dustin Miller, Kaitlyn and Kris and Mike Sheehan; two great-great-grandchildren, Joey and Ana Lau; three brothers, Ernest, Henry and Edward Budeau; one sister, Esther Fiskum; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sister, Mary Duplesea; seven brothers, Andrew, Ruben, Jacob, Carl, Emil, Albert and Adam; and her sons-in-law, Lenny Miller and Wilton Olson.
The family will always be grateful for her wonderful caring friends, neighbors and her loving caregivers, Wanda Brennan with Spectrum Home Care, and especially John and Gayle Miller, who were always there for her. She also enjoyed all her friends at Medcenter One and all her bowling buddies.
