STEELE -- Thomas Thompson, 71, Steele, died July 31, 1999, at his home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Steele, with the Rev. Robert Lynne officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Steele Chapel, with a prayer service at 7 tonight.
Tom was born on March 26, 1928, at Kintyre, the son of Magnus and Hannah (Svanes) Thompson. He was raised and educated in Kintyre. Tom worked on neighboring farms and also 33 years for the state Department of Transportation. After retirement, he joined his wife, Elaine, at the Town and Country Bakery in Steele. He married Elaine Ann Attletweedt on Aug. 27, 1950, in Steele.
Tom is survived by his wife, Elaine; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kathi Thompson Keig and Bill Keig, and Karla Thompson, all of Minneapolis; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Julie Thompson, Bismarck; six grandchildren, James Thomas Keig, Scott Carter Keig, Matthew Paul Keig, and Emily Marie Keig, all of Minneapolis, and Taylor Jane and Michael Jerome Thompson, Bismarck; six brothers and four sisters-in-law, Harry Thompson, Bozeman, Mont., George and Lennis Thompson, Mesa, Ariz., Norman Thompson, Salt Lake City, Charley and Sharon Thompson, Toledo, Ohio, Ryer and Darlene Thompson, Rugby, and Harold and Delores Thompson, Steele; one sister and brother-in-law, Hazel and Don Sinness, Bismarck; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Alvin Merkel, Bismarck, Rusty and Mary Hiltunen, Howard, S.D., and Bonnie Montgomery, Grand Island, N.Y.; seven godchildren, Naylor Vanous, Arizona, Robert K. Thompson, Menoken, Randy D. Hagen, Florida, Michael C. Hiltunen, Howard, S.D., Patricia Merkel Schneider, Bismarck, Shirleen Thompson, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Kristi Molbert Benz, Steele; his special friends, Frank Barnick, Mel Gertz, Russ Hanson and Marlyn Janke; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Magnus and Hannah Thompson; an infant daughter, Yvonne Adair Thompson; one sister, Shirley Thompson Merkel; one halfbrother, Tonning Skjeveland; one halfsister, Klara Gulbrandsen Norway; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Thomas and Myrtle Attletweedt; and two brothers-in-law, Jerome Attletweedt and Jim Montgomery.
