BLADENBORO — Helma Jean Thomas English, 89, of Bladenboro passed away on December 28, 2023 while at UNC Rex Center in Holly Springs, NC.
Helma was raised in Lumberton NC. Graduated from Lumberton High School and also Flora McDonald College where she majored in Business Education and taught for a few years. But Helma wanted to help others in her community so she took a position with NC Social Services where she spent the next 38 years serving others in Welfare and Child Support Enforcement.
Helma loved her community, her church, her friends and especially her daughters, grandchildren and her husband of 56 years, Bobby English. Bobby and Helma loved spending time with each other and you rarely saw one with out the other . Helma was an excellent cook and seamstress, but her real passion was her family. Grannah (Gaga) was adored by her 4 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She leaves behind two daughters - Belynda English Evans (Greg) of Raleigh and Elaine English Innes (Tom) of Raleigh; four grandchildren - Morgan Evans( Katrina), English Reynolds, Thomas Evans and Lathan Innes; two great grandchildren - Gregory and Ellie; and many neices and nephews as well as dear friends Charles Weathers and Denise Weathers.
Helma will be missed, but is now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; and the love of her life, Bobby English.
The family will receive friends from 11-11:45 am on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at the Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 pm with the Reverend Bradley Boberg officiating. Burial will follow the services in the McKinnon Cemetery in Abbottsburg.
In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be sent to one of her favorite charities. Frankie Lemmon School and Developmental Center in Raleigh, NC or The Miracle League of the Triangle.
