Gerald Hewitt Obituary
Hendersonville - Gerald E. Hewitt, 85 of Hendersonville, NC went home to be with his Lord on July 15, 2021.
He was born to Everett Hewitt and Mildred Lee Hewitt on February 5, 1936 in Sanderson, FL.
After attending Mars Hill Junior College (now Mars Hill University), where he met his future wife, Pattie, he finished his music degree at LSU in Baton Rouge, LA.
Gerald entered officer's training school for the US Navy after graduating and was a Lieutenant JG when he and Pattie were married in 1960. Three years later he was honorably discharged from the Navy and in 1966, began working as a claim's adjustor for State Farm Insurance in Jacksonville, FL. He had a beautiful tenor voice and used his gift for God's glory as a music director and by singing specials at Macclenny Baptist Church in Macclenny, FL, then Wesconnett Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL, and finally at Grace Baptist Church in Landrum, SC when State Farm moved him to their claim's office in Spartanburg, SC. He worked for State Farm for 33 years, retiring in 1999.
Gerald is preceded in death by his wife, Pattie after 58 years of marriage, and is survived by his brother, Lee Hewitt (Linda), and his sister-in-law, Ellen Hackney. He has three children: Leanna Hewitt Sain (Randy), Mark Hewitt, and Brian Hewitt; five grandchildren: Tyler Sain (Annie), Ethan Sain, Josh Hewitt (Gini), Austin Hewitt, and Brenden Hewitt; and four great-grandchildren: Daisia Hewitt, Anna Hewitt, Isaac Hewitt, and Nolan Sain.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 12:00pm. Dr. JB Godfrey will officiate the service. The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00 prior to the service. Burial will be at Campobello First Baptist Cemetery in Campobello, SC.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Baptist Church, Landrum, SC or The Wild's Christian Camp, Rosman, NC. Condolence cards may be sent to the family at Petty Funeral Home 124 N. Trade Ave. Landrum, SC 29356.
