Jennings Carland Jr.

Mebane - Jennings Carland Jr., 87, of Mebane, died Tuesday, March 2nd, 2021, after a brief illness.

He was born in Mills River, NC and had been a life-long resident of Henderson Co. until 2017. He was the son of the late Jennings Carland Sr. and Cinco Owenby Carland, both of Mills River. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University. After graduating, he returned to Mills River where he and his late wife, Louise T. Carland, owned and operated Carland and Associates Real Estate, Carmel Homes, and were involved in numerous subdivision developments in Henderson Co.

He was the brother of Wayne Carland of Mills River and the late Mary Bickerstaff of Georgia and the late Ann Carland of Brevard. He is survived by his wife, Carol Roney Carland of Mebane, son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Sheila Carland of Mills River, daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and David Whitener of Matthews, daughter and son-in-law Melissa and Chris Tenpenny of Rutherfordton, stepson and daughter-in-law Dennis and Pam Roney, stepson Tim Roney, and stepson and daughter-in-law Darryl and Marcy Roney. He was the grandfather of seven grandchildren: Victoria, Alisha and the late Jarrett Carland, Carleigh, McKinnley, Bradley and Chesney Tenpenny, two step grandchildren: Jessica and Lucas Roney, and two great-grandchildren: Liliana Lopez and Za'Cari Mills. In addition, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service for the family will be held at Shepherd Memorial Park on Tuesday, March 9th. Family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00pm on Monday, March 8th at Hart Funeral Service in Asheville.
