Edmond "Ed" Bangle, 95
Edmond "Ed" Dunsmoor Bangle
~ Beloved husband, brother, son, father, grandfather, uncle, and amazing human being. Always in our hearts. ~
Edmond D. Bangle died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, in Sandpoint, Idaho, on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
Born on April 17, 1930, in San Bernardino, California, Ed lived a life full of love, laughter, and service. He shared many wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Marie, and he took great joy in his family and in his five children, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A smart and popular youth, he was President of the student body and Captain of the football team. He later coached swimming, basketball, and wrestling teams. Always athletic, for decades Ed loved to get up at 5am to play racquetball with his friends.
Throughout his entire life, Ed combined his love of family, friends, sports, and the outdoors. A devoted hunter and fisherman, Ed felt most at peace in nature, whether it be fly fishing a creek, time on his boat, or napping on a mountain with his body in the sun and his head in the shade. He was well traveled and believed people were the main attraction in any town or country but were to be avoided at all costs when in nature.
Ed's career in education reflected his devotion to service and leadership. After earning his undergraduate, master's, and doctorate degrees from the University of Southern California, he worked as a coach and science and physical education teacher before serving as Vice Principal and Principal in the Fremont Union High School District. He later became Provost of the Department of Education at National University. A natural born and humble leader, he found ways to connect with everyone, whether sitting with his peers around a boardroom table or with his grandchildren on the floor beneath one.
Always ready with a smile and a quick joke, Ed had a gift for making those around him feel welcome and at ease. Those who knew Ed will remember his humor and his belief that life was best lived in service to others. He was the kind of man who made those around him feel special, was always quick with a compliment, some guidance, and a little self-deprecating humor. He believed that if ever you are feeling low or struggling, the solution is to make a little joke, smile, and then do for and give to others. Accordingly, each day, he made us all smile a little, laugh a lot, and he devoted himself to community service and was a proud member of The Kiwanis Club, to which he gave of his time, energy, and heart.
He was the kindest man, always looked at you with the warmest eyes, and you always knew that more than anything else going on around him, he was most interested in you.
He was, in every way, the best of us.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marie; his five children Cynthia and Christie (Gary) with first wife Beverly Kenyon, and Karen Margaret, James Edmond, and Ann Marie (David) with wife Marie; his grandchildren Jessica, Stacey, Michelle, Megan (Sam), Alex, Chloe, Nick, Tyler, Emma and Edie; his seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Robert Miller Bangle, Bessie Belle Bangle, and six older siblings. He is survived as well by his nephew Dave and wife Robin, who cared for him with devotion, and his nephew Richard and wife Gloria, whose presence nearby was always a comfort.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no service. The family invites you to remember him in your own way, with a smile and a story shared. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Kiwanis Sandpoint Chapter/Camp Stidwell.
Ed will be remembered most for his smile, his easy-going nature, and the joy he brought to all who knew him.
