Leslie Marshall Obituary

Leslie Marshall

Leslie Marshall, a beloved past resident of Sandpoint, Idaho, passed away on June 7, 2024 in Athens, Ala.

She was born in Long Beach, Callif., on July 13, 1940. She grew up in the small community of Manitou Springs, Colo.

Leslie lived much of her early adult life in Marin County, Calif., where she raised her family in the community of San Rafael and Terra Linda. Leslie worked first at Terra Linda High School and later spent many years as school administrator at Drake High School, where she was a beloved member of the staff and students.

In 1993, Leslie and her attorney husband Richard Marshall moved to Spirit Lake, Idaho, where she spent many happy years living on the lake and getting to know the locals and assisted in caring for Richard's mother, Kathryn.

Leslie was hired in the Bonner County Road and Bridge Department as a senior secretary on Aug. 8, 1994. She was later promoted to administrative assistant and then promoted to Solid Waste director in January 2004 and later to Public Works director in February 2013. Leslie retired from the county on April 10, 2015, at the age of 75.

After she retired, she was very active as a volunteer in Bonner County. She was a volunteer with the Community Assistance League, serving as program director, among other things. She also participated in the Scholarship Committee. She joined the Women's Morning Golf Club at the Elks and was not only elected treasurer, she participated in the organization and event planning for the cancer tournament held by the ladies' club each year. She later began to work with the Elks Foundation as chair of the Scholarship Committee. She was a member of the Women Honoring Women Committee. She enjoyed all of her volunteer work and the many friends she met along the way in Bonner County.

She was on the board of the Sandpoint Area Senior, Inc. from 2016 until she moved to Alabama in 2023 to be near family. While at the senior center she was the treasurer for more than seven years. She worked hard not only as treasurer, but participated in every fundraiser, setting up, taking down, whatever was required to make the event a success. She was in charge of bridge at the senior center, making sure the tables were set up and keeping track - a big job!

Leslie is survived by her sons, Greg and Geoff (Amy) Blank of Athens; and her sisters, Debbie (Tom) Wagner, and Vicki (Mark) Halsor.

Leslie will be remembered for her love, kindness and dedicated service to the communities she was part of during her life. She will be missed by many.

A celebration of Leslie's life will be held in September in Sandpoint at a date to be determined.
