Aiden Garvey Obituary

GARVEY, Aidan Joshua Age 5, of Upton, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2009 at the Children's Hospital of Orange County in California after a one-month battle with Leukemia and complications from treatment. He was the beloved son of Joshua R. and Regina N. (Shearn) Garvey. Aidan was born on December 19, 2003 in Dunedin, Florida and would have entered Kindergarten this year. Aidan and his family are members of St. Luke the Evangelist Church in Westborough. In addition to his parents, Aidan is survived by his sister, Ava Garvey (2); his maternal grandparents, Daniel and Rebecca Shearn of Cincinnati, Ohio; his paternal grandmother, June Friedgen and her husband, Dale, of Worcester; his paternal grandfather, Michael P. Garvey of West Boylston; maternal great-grandparents, Rex and Margaret Ridge of Bucyrus, Ohio, and Robert and Madeline Shearn of Hampton Bays, NY; uncle, Brandon Shearn and his wife, Marie, of Cincinnati, Ohio; aunt Julie Sclafani and her husband, Kyle, of New Orleans; and aunt, Lindsay Garvey of Cambridge, MA; and his Godparents, Glen and Kristen Pascale, of Westborough, MA. Aidan was an extraordinary child. As the first grandchild in the family, he was appropriately adored. Aidan most loved his family, friends, superheroes, legos, music, dancing, art, swimming and chocolate. He was an incredible mentor to his little sister, and he inspired pure joy in everyone he touched. One could always count on Aidan to be humming the theme music to Star Wars or Indiana Jones, and to meet your eyes with his warm smile and big blue eyes with gold specks. Twice, Aidan was a proud ring-bearer at family weddings. He recently graduated from Pre-Kindergarten, where he was recognized as a gifted student who was already reading, writing and practicing math. Wise beyond his years, Aidan taught each of us lessons we will continue to realize for years to come. In his words, every day was "the BEST day of my life". Aidan's illness was sudden and unexpected. He was a strong, healthy boy right up to his hospital admission. The only solace to Aidan's family is that he never knew how sick he was, never suffered during treatment, and never doubted for a minute how much he was loved. Aidan's funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 25 at 10:00 A.M. in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Upton. A memorial service for children will most likely take place the following week. Calling hours at the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., WESTBOROUGH, are Friday, July 24 from 4 to 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, a foundation will be created in Aidan's name by the family to honor Aidan's memory with information to follow. westboroughfuneralhome.com

Dear Reggie, Josh and Ava.

My heart and prayers go out to you and your family in this time of great loss. I heard about your loss through my mother and I wanted Reggie and her family to know that you are in my thoughts.

Love,

Reggie, Josh and Ava,
Marie is my family's babysitter, so we knew of all the developments during Aiden's fight, and my entire family kept you in our thoughts. You are still in our thoughts, and as you read below, my friend Jen Martz ran partly in your honor (as well as honoring others fighting the disease and their families.) I have two little boys Aiden's age, so it has made a large impact on our family. You are in our thoughts and prayers,
Shannon Golub and Family

To The Garvey Family, I learned of your loss from a friend in Cincinnati and my heart breaks for you and your family. I wanted to let you know that I am currently training for the Air Force Half Marathon in September as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. I have three young sons and after hearing Aiden's story, I ran my personal best. I will continue to run in his memory with the hopes that no other family should have to feel your pain. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I don't know you, but wanted to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. What a beautiful child! It seems he accomplished a lot in his short time on this Earth. I went to a funeral once for a baby and the priest said that he had had a brother who died as an infant and his mother always said that she had her own angel in Heaven. Now you have one, too. I pray that God will be with you all and comfort you in this terribly difficult time.

I miss Aidan, my heart is broken, I'm going to miss sleeping in his room and having him cuddle with me in the morning. I have so many memories of him and I will carry those with me for years to come.

Mr. and Mrs. Garvey and Ava,

You don't know me, but I saw Aiden's notice in the paper and I wanted to tell you how very sorry I am for your loss. He sounds like he was a very special child, and you were blessed to have him. He was also very blessed to have the wonderful family he had. As he sits now on Jesus' lap, please remember the wonderful times you had with him. I will pray for your peace and your strength.
