ALVAN HIRSHBERG Obituary
LCDR USN retired, died Jan. 16, 2013 in Cary, NC surrounded by his two sons. WWII Naval Aviator & Carnegie Medal recipient. Beloved husband of the late June Betty (Novick) Hirshberg, loving father of Steven P. Hirshberg of Andover, MA and Robert J. Hirshberg of Cary, NC together with Dr. Yang Xin, like a loving daughter, also of Cary, NC and his dear daughter in law Susan Hirshberg of Andover, grandfather of David Hirshberg of N. Andover, MA and brother of Dr. Milton J. Hirshberg of Harwich, MA and Elaine Hirshberg of West Palm Beach, FL. His graveside service with military honors will be Sunday, Jan. 20th at 10:00 am in the Children of Israel Cemetery, Middle Rd. Haverhill, MA. A memorial period will follow the interment on Sunday until 10:00 pm at his son Steven's home. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes, HAVERHILL. Dear Robert and Family,
I cannot begin to express my gratitude to Alvan for the great times we had on the waterways of Palm Beach. I learned a lot from him. He was the epitome of the strong silent hero. Regina and I will not forget him.

Dear Robert,Steven,Elaine and family.
We were saddened to hear about Alvan. We remember the good times we had as neighbors in Palm Beach,.We partied together,cruised together and everyone got along well.It was a wonderful time in our lives.We remember Alvan with love. Fruema and elliot Klorfein

Dear Robert, Steven & family: We feel lucky that we had the chance to know Alvan and become familiar with his generous spirit. Alvan always was able to meet us as if we are members of his family and that is exactly how we feel. We are certain that his absence will be a big loss for anyone who knew him.
