ALBERT, S.M., Fr. Andrew R. Age 87, a Marist priest (Society of Mary), died at Maristhill Nursing Home, in Waltham, MA, on Sunday, May 19, 2024. He was born in Brunswick, ME on February 4, 1937 to Alfred Albert and Agnes Moreau Albert. After elementary school, he entered the Marist Preparatory Seminary in Bedford, MA in 1951 and later, Marist College and Seminary in Framingham, MA. Fr. Albert professed first vows as a Marist on September 8, 1958 in Staten Island, NY. He prepared for the priesthood at Marist College in Washington, D.C. and the University of Ottawa, Ontario. He professed final vows in 1962 and was ordained a priest on January 30, 1965 in Brunswick, ME. He then taught French at several schools. His first parish assignment, in 1969, was St. Anne's Church in Lawrence, MA. He soon became pastor there and later was also pastor at Our Lady of Pity Church in Cambridge, MA, St. Joseph's Church in Haverhill, MA and Our Lady of Victories Church in Boston. He served as superior of the Marist community in those parishes. Fr. Albert's final assignment was the Lourdes Center in Boston; he resided there until early in 2024. He was part of the ministry staff and also engaged in part-time ministries at St. Margaret's in Lowell, MA and New England Baptist Hospital. He was Director of the Lourdes Center from 2011 until 2017. Fr. Albert was predeceased by a sister, Anne Albert; and a brother, Austin Albert. He is survived by his brother, Marists; and by five nephews and nieces, Maureen (Jean) Desrosiers, James, Andrew (Tracey) Albert, Jo-Ann (John) Manning and David (Denise) Albert; ten grandnieces and nephews; and three great-grandnieces and nephew. Fr. Albert's Wake will take place at St. Cecelia's Church, Boston, on Wednesday, May 29, at 9:30 am, followed by his Funeral Mass, at 11:00 am. He will be Laid to Rest in the Marist section, of St. John's Cemetery, in Brunswick, ME. Donations in his name may be made to the Marist Missions, 698 Beacon St., Boston, MA 02215.
