HURD, Ann S. Ann Sinclair Hurd, 73 (July 6, 1949-August 3, 2022) Passed away peacefully August 3, 2022, at her Rockport, MA, home. She was surrounded by her family and her beloved cats. Ann had been dealing with cancer for the last five years. Ann was adamant that it is known that she "dealt" with her disease. It was never a battle, as the cancer never stopped her from doing what she loved so dearly. She continued her love of knitting, puzzles, reading, cooking, drawing, going on adventures, trying new restaurants, long walks and talks with her friends of 50+ years, and perfecting the art of the cat cuddle. Ann was born in Beverly, MA, in 1949 and grew up in Gloucester, MA. A 1967 graduate of Gloucester High School, she attended Mount Holyoke College in Hadley, MA, graduating with an art degree in 1971. After college, Ann moved to Boston where she worked in the Massachusetts State House and the admissions office at Boston University. In 1983, Ann moved to Bolton, MA, after accepting a job as the State & Local Government Relations Manager for Digital Equipment Corporation. One of her very first projects for Digital was convincing state officials an exit ramp was needed for the swelling traffic numbers in the Marlboro area. In 2001, Exit 23C for Simarano Drive on I-495 opened to the public. She proudly called the ramp "her exit" every time time she passed it on the highway. In 1998, Ann began working for Intel Corporation based in Hudson, MA. In her 16 years at Intel, she was the Director of Global Community Engagement and the U.S. East Coast Public Affairs Manager. Her job took her all over the world and she enjoyed working with colleagues from different cultures and backgrounds. Ann loved traveling to China, India, Ireland, and Vietnam, just to name a few. Ann also enjoyed volunteering her time to help better her community. She was a trustee of the Bolton Public Library, where she played crucial roles in initiating a large scale expansion/renovation project and raising money toward its successful completion in 2010, collecting over $1 million in donations. She also served on the town's advisory (finance) committee in recent years. Ann is survived by her son, Alec C. Palmer of Rockport, MA; her sister, Elizabeth "Bonnie" H. and her husband, Mo Handel of Needham, MA; her brother, James "Jake" Hurd of Gloucester, MA; three nephews and three nieces, Gabriel R. and Archana Handel of Acton, MA, Samuel H. and Lauren Handel of Egremont, MA, Elizabeth Jane Handel and Dan Giordano of New York City, NY; and three great-nephews and a great-niece, Ethan and Caleb Handel and Orson and C.
