POWERS, Anne Lyman Boston Area Artist Beloved Mother and Grandmother Of Wellesley, Massachusetts died peacefully at home, on December 19, 2024, at the age of 102. A hardy New Englander, Anne stayed active up to the very end, drawing, sculpting, painting, playing chess and checkers and walking the neighborhood. Born in Boston Massachusetts, Anne was the daughter of George H. Lyman and Eleanor Lee Lyman. She grew up in Boston and Brookline and attended The Winsor School and Vassar College, where she majored in English. In 1950, she married Boston lawyer H. Burton Powers and settled down with him in Wellesley, where they raised a family of four children. After studying at the Boston Museum School, she embarked on a long and productive art career. While she focused on painting, first with oil and later with acrylic and water color, she also sculpted in wood, clay and bronze and worked with engraving and lithography. Early in her career, she taught painting at The Museum School and at Wellesley College. She exhibited her work in many solo and group art shows throughout New England and was widely collected. Anne loved sailing, skiing, tennis, traveling, music and reading. She cruised extensively throughout New England, spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed civic engagement, first through the Junior League of Boston, then as President of the Board for The Associated Day Care Services. Her intellectual interests also extended into writing. She wrote two books, Love Songs, Apples and Murder, a political history of the avant-garde from 1890 - 1950, as well as a memoir on her mother's family, "The Family in Her Life." Anne was predeceased by her husband, H. Burton Powers; as well as by her sisters, Lee (Lyman) Dober, and Lorraine Lyman. She is survived by her son, Harry Powers; his partner, Sylvia Smith; and grandchildren, Sam Powers and Joy Powers; son, George Powers and his wife, Pat Powers; and grandchildren, Annie Powers and Kate (Powers) Correira; and two great-grandchildren; daughter, Katherine Powers; and daughter, Eleanor Powers and her partner, Daniel Sang.
