GARGIULO, Anthony Pasquale Jr. "Tony G" Died peacefully surrounded by family on June 20, 2023, in Mashpee. He was the beloved husband of the late Marcia A. (Brown) Gargiulo, with whom he shared 57 wonderful years of marriage.
Anthony was born on June 4, 1930, in Cambridge, MA. His parents, Anthony and Florence Gargiulo, were both born in the area of Naples, Italy, and immigrated to America. He was the youngest of his father's six children. Tony G was very proud of his Italian heritage, and would often tell the story of how each year he would help is father make over 100 gallons of wine and some anisette with the extracts.
Tony was born during the Great Depression, and his early years' experience motivated him to work hard and be successful beyond his environment's norm. After his years in the Cambridge school system, he next attended and graduated from Boston College with a Bachelor of Science degree. Tony G found his calling during a law course while studying at BC, and he later attended and graduated from Boston University Law School.
To say Anthony Gargiulo was a successful attorney in Boston during the 1960s and 1970s would be a great understatement. While he started as a Prosecuting Attorney, and later became a District Attorney, Tony G spent most of his legal career as a Criminal Defense Attorney. Tony G did not discriminate when it came to his clientele, so long as they paid in cash, and he defended some of the most colorful and connected members of the Boston area. He was a great storyteller as he recounted his legal experiences with family and friends, and as time passed more of the "untold stories" were shared.
Tony met the love of his life, Marcia Brown, when she was working in the legal office for a friend and fellow attorney. He used his private investigation firm, GarMac Investigators, to find the unlisted number and contact this "beautiful blonde who lived on the other side of the Charles River." Tony and Marcia were married within two years on Thanksgiving Day.
Tony and Marcia had four children, Carol, David, Lisa, and Joe. They originally lived in Arlington, MA, and later settled into a beautiful home in Dover, MA. The family also spent nearly all their summers in New Seabury on Cape Cod on Popponesset Island.
Tony G moved on from his successful law career to become an even more successful real estate developer. He was a pioneer who discovered Route 9 in Framingham, MA, just as the area's first major retail shopping area was being developed. Tony purchased and developed properties along Framingham's "Miracle Mile" which included Bed, Bath & Beyond, UNO's, and Verizon Wireless. He also developed both residential and commercial properties on Cape Cod including Greenwood, a 150 home residential community in Mashpee, as well as commercial real estate in Harwich, including CVS.
One of Tony's greatest joys was traveling the world with his wife, Marcia. The couple traveled to Paris, the Rhine River, Rio De Janeiro, Alaska, and China among many other fantastic destinations. While Marcia was always in good fortune during their trips to Las Vegas, their favorite and most frequent destination was Southern Italy.
Both Tony and Marcia were avid and accomplished golfers. They were members at New Seabury on Cape Cod, MA, and The Island Club on Marco Island, FL, for over 40 years, where they made many friends and countless wonderful memories. Tony G achieved a remarkable seven hole-in-ones in his lifetime, and equally remarkable, when he once "shot his age" by scoring a 75 when he was 78 years old.
While Tony G's life was filled with extraordinary experience and success, it also included extraordinary loss and sadness. He was predeceased by three of his four children, David, Lisa, and Joe who died of various causes during their '40s; his grandson, Richie Bellis, at age 16 in a dirt bike accident; and most recently his wife, Marcia, who passed in 2019 after battling a significant illness. Tony is survived by his daughter, Carol Bellis, who was a remarkable angel to her mother and father in their final years; as well as his grandsons, Joe Gargiulo Jr., and Max Gargiulo.
Tony G was a great storyteller, that lived a remarkable life; he and his stories will be greatly missed, but his family takes comfort that he is reunited with Marcia and his family.
Anthony P. Gargiulo, Jr. will be laid to rest with his wife, Marcia, at Great Neck Woods Cemetery, in Mashpee in a private ceremony. Extended family members and friends are invited to join the family for a Celebration of Life on Sunday, June 25, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at New Seabury County Club, 95 Shore Drive West, Mashpee, MA 02649.
