BARBARA GOLDBERG Obituary

GOLDBERG, Barbara Beurman (1931 - 2016), a widely admired textile artist and professor, died at her home in Brookline Mass. on July 2. A memorial service was held July 6. Her work employed resist dyeing techniques, especially Japanese shibori with indigo dye, to explore subtle patterns and colors. Prof. Goldberg served on the faculties of the Mass College of Art in Boston, the Program in Artisanry at Boston University, and the Artisanry program at UMass Dartmouth. A beloved and influential teacher, she directed the UMD Artisanry graduate program from 1990 to 2002. Barby's husband Alan died in 2009. She is survived by her sister Lois, her children Arthur, Marcia, Bennett, and Anne, and her grandchildren Michael, Ellen, Ruby, Amelia, and Benjamin. Barbara was fiercely devoted to her students, to her art and to her family. She leaves behind a wonderful, unforgettable legacy. Gifts in honor of her memory may be donated to the Brandford/Elliott Award for Excellence in Fiber Art or Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
