If any family members of friends have photos of Bernie they are willing to share, particularly during his service in WWII (photos in uniform, his B-17 crew photos, photos of the aircraft, etc.) I would love to add those to the history I am building of all the men who were on the plane crash which he survived. Thank you. --Mark Hartzheim The Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/B17446873?ref=hl

If this is the Bernard C. Doherty who was a crew member surviving the crash of B-17 aircraft #44-6873 on August 1, 1945, I would love to pay tribute on the Facebook page "B17 #446873 Information Page". My uncle was also on that plane.

Mr. Doherty was a wonderful man, part of the Greatest Generation. He taught young men about boxing and about life, and made them better for having known him.
I always enjoyed and looked forward to chatting with Mr. Doherty.
May God Bless his family during this difficult time.

Bernie trained dozens of young men at the South Side Gym in Roslindale for many years and was a positive influence on all of them. Not only did he train them but he picked them up and dropped them off and also took them to all the fights. He was one of a kind and will never be replaced.
Rest in peace Bernie.
