My husband and I recently did an early autumn bike ride around Cape Ann and I couldn't help but think of you and Gillian and Maurice and our ride around the peninsula.

I met Charlie when I joined IBM in 1979 after graduating from UVM. He helped and taught me a lot. His customers and colleagues loved him. A talented professional, gentleman, and fascinating in his curiosity and zest for life. I was with an IBM friend this week and we we´re remembering him. I did not know he died years ago. Wonderful man. I wish his family condolences.

Sad to hear of the loss via AMC Tributes. I grew up in Andover Maine, where Charlie Akers is from, also an avid x-c skier and a friend of
Charles Kellogg. Thanks for all the family contributions to the ski world.

Gill and family,
I just returned from a retreat and found your card in the mail and found the obituary on-line. I am so sorry for your loss. Please accept my condolences and blessings to you in this difficult time of year. I have fond memories of my visits to you and Charlie in Massachusetts as well as our time together in Vermont.

He was a great man, he was always willing to help me with my eagle scout project. Played a major role in troop. He will be missed.

I just found out and I'm stunned. Charlie was an inspiration to me, my son and all of Troop 3.
I was so happy to know Charlie and Gillian continued to enjoy so many great trips, even in retirement.

I had the distinct pleasure of working with Charlie for ten years in a Sales Training Academy where he was a key contributor, developer, mentor and trainer. Charlie was a true inspiration to many as he conveyed his vast sales experience into practical hands-on training scenarios. Charlie was humble, credible, insightful, encouraging and FUN! He enjoyed sharing stories about his many travels and adventures with his beloved wife Gillian, his children and grandchildren. Once I sent some crucial information to Charlie in Boston to use in a training case study he was developing. He called to tell me it never arrived although I had confirmation of delivery by FedX. After some sleuthing in the snow he happily announced that he found the well-chewed envelope in the woods at the entrance of a raccoon hole. I am so grateful to have met such an amazing man, and my heart aches for his family at his passing. Godspeed, Charlie, thank you for your guidance and friendship - we all miss you!!!

To Gillian and Charlie's family: I feel truly fortunate to have worked with Charlie at MECT. He was a gifted leader and a generous worker who was always positive and inspirational to those around him. His memory will help keep the trials open.

Dear Gillian and Family, We are so sorry to learn in the Bston Globe of Charlie's passing. We do have fond memories of our days together in Andover..... with our then little girls playing together while we enjoyed a game of tennis at PA. We remember being so impressed with Charlie's accomplishments... And of course a wonderful man to have known. Thinking of Charlie brings back memories of Juliet and her many wonderful years at Rockywold Deephaven Camps...that we still enjoy every summer. Our love to you all... Tina and Andrew Girdwood,
