CHRISTOPHER "KIT" WELD Jr.

1956 - 2025

CHRISTOPHER WELD Obituary

WELD, Christopher "Kit" Jr. Kit, age 68, of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Hamilton and Boston, MA, passed away in Boston, surrounded by his family, on April 23, 2025, due to complications from pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Weld (Boston, MA); his children and their spouses, Andy Weld and Sara Hussey (Washington, DC), Sally Weld and Amrit Kanesa-thasan (Chicago, IL) and Casey Weld and Megan Weld; his granddaughter, Aaliyah Weld (Washington, DC); his brother, Mark Weld (Manchester-by-the-Sea); and his sister, Liz Lee (Park City, UT). Kit was a kind and compassionate man who made it his mission in life to help others. From volunteering, to legal work, to community building, to being a terrific father and husband, he had an unmistakable and lasting positive impact on everyone who knew him. Kit was born in Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA, to Chris and Sally Weld. He grew up in town, where he was a member of the Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, as well as being an avid hockey player (an always much-needed goalie) and cross-country runner. After graduating from Manchester High School, he traveled across the country for college, attending Stanford University for his undergraduate degree in philosophy, where he was also a member of the varsity ski team, before returning to the Bay State for law school at Boston College. Upon graduating law school, he began work at Hale & Dorr, where he would meet his future wife, Kathy Pratt, and establish himself as a thoughtful and talented lawyer. After Hale & Dorr, he briefly practiced as a solo practitioner, before co-founding Todd & Weld in 1992, where he would lead the firm until his retirement in 2023. Kit was a nationally celebrated litigator on diverse matters from immigration to real estate and became a fellow of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers in 2017. Kit was a loving father and husband who is deeply missed by his wife and three children and their spouses. They will remember him for his passion for sailing and skiing, his love of the Red Sox and Bruins, his time spent with Lyle and Diane Coons and his enjoyment of a cold beer without any fruit in it. As he liked to say, "No fruit in the beah!" In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Project Adventure, an experiential education program Kit was passionate about. www.pa.org Visiting Hours: A Celebration Of Life for family and friends will be held on Saturday, May 17, at 11 am, at the Singing Beach Club, 117 Beach Street, Manchester by-the-Sea.

My deepest sympathies to Kathy and the kids. What a wonderful and impactful life Kit led! As Project Adventure´s former board chair, he guided with verve, confidence, humor, and humility. He had vision and was an incredible problem solver. He somehow inspired everyone around him to be better. Further, as a friend, he was both a confidant and full of delight. We will all remember him fondly.

Kit was such a decent, kind, strong human being. What he gave to Project Adventure in his role as our board chair was indicative of his character and his heart, not to mention his intelligence, and he displayed those characteristics in all areas of his life, it seems. I feel lucky to have been believed in, mentored and supported by him. My heart goes out to the whole Weld family. I thought his loved ones would enjoy this picture of Kit at one of our fundraisers.

Someone I met as a lawyer who quickly became a friend. He had that wonderful combination of self deprecating modesty with a razor sharp mind. I am deeply saddened by his passing. He was my co-counsel and at times my lawyer, and always my friend. May his memory be a blessing.

Our family has had the honor of knowing the Weld family for many years. Over the years we have been fortunate to created many memories. Kit´s kind compassion was easily extended when life was bumpy and his smile and sense of humor were constant when life required celebration. He touched us all. Much love to his wonderful family. He will certainly be missed.

I was so sorry to hear of Kit's passing. He was a kind and generous man. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and colleagues. I did not know Kit that well but do know of his extreme loyalty and generosity to Project Adventure. I have worked at Project Adventure for twelve years. Kit was our rock. He was our Chairman of the Board and an extremely generous donor. He will be sorely missed but always remembered fondly at Project Adventure.
