My condolences to the Hegarty family. Fr. Hegarty was a great leader and role model as a priest, coach, and teacher. Through the Church and CYO Fr. Hegarty taught loyalty, teamwork, values, and respect that has stayed with me to this day. Thank you and rest in eternal peace Fr. Hegarty.

I will always remember Father Hegarty from Sacret Heart in Roslindale. What a sense of humor. He was so good to all the children. I had him for CCD and would go to his Mass. God bless you Father. Thank you for all you did for us.

Fr. Hegarty was a GREAT Priest. We go back many years when I was an assistant to Msgr Keating Chief Chaplain BFD. We were at many fires together. He alsways called me BRO.
His car was always filled with boys from his parish Sacred Heart. He took them everywhere. I am glad that he was a part of my life journey to God. Receive his soul and present him to God the Most High.

Father Hegarty was such a great priest/person. He was SO good to the kids of Holy Name Parish - organizing outings (ski trips, etc) and spending endless amounts of time teaching all of us how to play basketball, softball, etc. We will all miss you terribly. Thanks for all that you did, Fr. Hegarty - may you rest in peace. You will be in my thoughts and prayers....

Father Dan Hegarty was a CLASS ACT and a wonderful Priest and Mentor. He was also "one hell of a coach. He took his teams whether Baseball, Basketball, or Hockey and we all piled in his Ford with the RED LIGHTS and SIREN. My fondest memory of him will be the Sunday night hockey games in Saugus where we never had much success. One night we lost 9-1 and he entered the locker room and spoke "BOYS I'm PROUD OF YA! YOU KEPT THE LOSS to SINGLE DIGITS ICE CREAM ON ME". REST in PEACE

Father Hegarty has been a cherished friend for almost 50 years. We met him when he was at Sacred Heart, Roslindale and he has been close to our family since. He married our five children and baptised many of our grandchildren.
He will be in our thoughts and prayers every day. We could not have had a dearer friend.

Father Hegarty was a long time family friend (Sacred Heart Roslindale). He officiated at my wedding and my brother Mike's. As a member of the Boston Fire Department he was a friend of my farther's (DFC Paul (Mike) Buchanan. Father Hegarty was a great CYO coach, (Sacred Heart) as well as a great confidant. He was always there for our family. He will be greatly missed. Mark Buchanan District Fire Chief City of Boston

Father Hegarty was a good man, a role model and a friend. Thank you for the street hockey stick when my parents couldn't afford one. That's the kinda guy he was...

My sincere prayers of sympathy and support to the members of Father Dan's family. Father Dan was a good friend for many years as a fellow fire chaplain and brother Priest. I When I would return back to Boston on vacation after my parents died I would stay with Fr. Dan at St. Anthony's Parish and always enjoyed that time of fellowship with him while just sitting in his room or riding with him into the Sparks Club. He always enjoyed those hours of just being with his fellow "sparks' and talking about the good old days. Two of the most enjoyable times were when we went into Boston to see the Tall Ships and also down to The Cape to visit his family. One of the saddest times was when I responded with him to the fire in Charlestown that took the life of Lt. Steve Minihan. He was a holy and prayerful Priest that was a true example to me in my own Priesthood. He would often call me here in South Dakota and I always looked forward to his call. We had last talked as recently as last Sunday. Rest in peace, my friend, until we meet again ... you will always be C-17 to me !!!
