Working with Dave over the years have been such a pleasure for all of us at Residential Appraisers. His knowledge of the Boston real estate market was respected by our firm and every client that grew to know him. Dave had mastered his profession and made his assignments look easy compared to the rest of us.
In addition to being a great appraiser he was a funny guy to work with. Dave had a great dry sense of humor and used it daily. He loved all the staff's children and they loved him. He would steal my daughter's dolls and would actually make them believe that he had his own personal collection of dolls at home. My kids feared him and loved him at the same time.
As for Dave's own child; once the baby was born Dave cut his work schedule to 4 days a week so that he could be home with his son. Dave shared a picture of his son with us that we will never forget. Little Owen was only about 4-5 months old at the time, he was sitting on the floor with his dog Lily. The dog was licking the inside of the baby's mouth! All Dave said was that if his wife ever found this picture he was in trouble.
What has happened to Dave over the last 7 months is the most frightening thing that I have ever witnessed. Dave was incredibly brave thoughout the time and never complained to any of us at the office. Believe it or not Dave was actually working 1 month ago and still doing an outstanding job. We knew he was in pain by the way he was moving but he never said a word. He always managed a smile. He was an outstanding human being and will be greatly missed.
Our love and sympathy to his wife and family, Bob and Joanna Morehouse

Two things... First, I can't rationalize these events. There is no acceptable reason to have to give up another good person. I simply resign myself to my faith that Dave is in a much better place with far too many of my loved ones.
Second, I am not able to conjure up a memory of "Burke-ie" which does not make me smile, then chuckle and then laugh out-loud. Dave will always be a laugh-out-loud kind of a guy for me.
You knew that Dave had arrived at a gathering by the chorus of “Burke-ieeee!” from all his friends. If he couldn’t attend in person, Jim Cincotta always had a few of the latest “Burke-ie stories” that would have everyone laughing. I am lucky to have him as a friend and they are very lucky to have him in Heaven.
With Love and Thanks to Dave’s family and friends,
David Drake
