David GRIFFITHS Obituary

GRIFFITHS, Dr. David William Passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, at his home in Boston, after a short battle with cancer. He was a clinical psychologist and had been for many years, an Instructor in Psychology at Harvard Medical school. David was well known in the Boston area for his many decades of professional service and particularly for his service to the Boston LGBTQ community.

David was born on May 12,1947, in Binghamton, New York, to an industrious family of community and church-minded parents. He received his secondary education at St. Andrews School, a small Episcopal-related preparatory school in Tennessee. He received his Bachelor's degree from Brown University and his doctorate in education from Boston University. He also did several years of study at the former Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge and many years of post-graduate study, particularly in the field of group psychotherapy.

At the time of his death, David was in semi-retirement and spent much of the year at his home in Provincetown, where he was an active member of the community. He was on the Vestry of St. Mary of the Harbor Episcopal Church and was active in the Provincetown arts scene. He was an avid photographer, a student of design and, particularly, a lover of animals. At the time of his death, his beloved dog, Gio, was next to him.

David is survived by a sister, Susan Louise Griffiths of Albany, New York; a nephew, Matthew Cherchio also of Albany; nieces, Lori Mele of Albany; and several former long-time partners and friends, including Kevin Bui of Boston and Stephen Cope of Albany, NY. And by his close friends, James Bourgeois, Jeffrey Munger, Rob Whitman, Rory Wadlin and Eddie Debortoli. He was predeceased by his parents, Leroy and Florence Griffiths; and by a twin brother, Daniel Leroy Griffiths.

Arrangements are handled by Keefe Funeral Home in CAMBRIDGE. Interment will be in a private service of Green Burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Wellfleet, Massachusetts. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at St. Mary of the Harbor, in Provincetown, MA. Gifts in David's honor may be sent to St. Mary of the Harbor Outreach Fund, Provincetown, MA.

John & I lived next door to David for many years on George´s Path. We remember his wonderful smile, warm heart, and sense of humor. He loved gardening and created a beautiful space & oasis behind his home in P-Town! We will miss him and may he now rest in peace. Patrick & John

A tenant of David and Stephen's when they owned their house in Dorchester and we all shared parishioner-ship at All Saints Ashmont and later when I lived only a couple doors down from him on Clarendon St., I long had a warm regard for him and the reach of his gifts. However peripheral our connection, I'm saddened to learn of his passing and extend genuine condolences to those enriched by who he was within the circle of Grace that defined his vocation and life's pilgrimage. Rest In Peace, David.
