DAVID HOCH Obituary

Hoch, David J.
52, of Belmont, formerly of Lincoln, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 27, 2012. Beloved friend, son, brother, uncle and nephew, Dave was known for his kindness, honesty, unsurpassed creativity, his many ingenious inventions, and his generosity to family and friends. He was a superb tennis and squash player. Dave graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. High School in 1978. He received a degree in electrical engineering from MIT in 1983. Dave was an accomplished inventor whose patented inventions brought to life his enormous creative talents. Dave saw opportunity for invention and innovation everywhere he looked. Although he was an inventor by trade, Dave was also known as a gifted photographer, gardener, and cook. He was a world traveler. He loved Chinese food and opened his door to all for his many BBQ's. Dave leaves many friends, all of whom were drawn to him by his kind disposition, his sense of humor, his compassion for his fellow man, and for his love of life. Preceded in death by his cherished father, Alfred D. Hoch, Dave leaves his loving mother, Carole K. Hoch of Charlestown, and his devoted siblings Alan Hoch of Groton, Jonathan Hoch of Lincoln and Carole Lee de Jong of Weston. He also leaves 7 nieces and nephews, all of whom loved Uncle Dave. A memorial will be held in his memory on September 15th at 3pm at the Lincoln Cemetery on Lexington Rd.

Dave, today is such a beautiful day, and when I stepped out into the first bright sun we've seen in ages, I was overcome by the memory of you. You would have been filled with as many fun plans as you could possibly fit into this day, and it gave me great sadness that you are not here to do that. I know you would not want me to remember you with sorrow, so I'm going to go out and try to make the most of this day like I know you would have wanted. Although time marches on, you are still close at heart.

I only met Dave a few months before he was gone. I was very disappointed that such a smart, friendly and interesting person should depart the scene so early. I know what he offered would have made my life richer: that may sound selfish to some, though I'm sure that those who shared in his gifts know exactly what I mean. RIP, Dave. I hardly knew you, but I'm glad I did.

Hey old pal. I hope they have some of your led earrings up there, so when you're on the dance floor, they'll be blinking so all the cute angels start looking at you, and you can do that move where you stop, and point at them, just like in the ol' days at ADP.

I'll be there today, but I thank you for your kindness in opening your doors to have people get together. Without new and old friends that we make and through again your kindness in opening up your doors to make new friends, the world is a better place. We all will miss you.

To David's family,

I just want to express my deepest condolences for your loss. I was shocked and saddened to learn of his passing for such a vibrant individual.

I participated in a number of his Galatic Tennis events over the years, and found David to be an incredible upbeat, enthusiastic and very good player who inspired us all. His leadership in this event made it fun for the many fellow tennis lovers who participated, and his parties were legendary in bringing us together.

I feel very fortunate to have met such a great person, and will remember David with fondness every time I step on the courts.

In spite of ourselves, we'll end up sitting on a rainbow. Against the odds, honey we're the big door prize. We're gonna spite our noses right off of our faces. There won't be nothing but big ole' hearts dancing in our eyes. In spite of ourselves.

There was a star last night --that surpassed all the others in brightness --and it was dancing to its own tune --I think it was you showing off a bit and saying "it's all good". You will always be near--peace to your family.
