REV. DONALD P. CLIFFORD

CLIFFORD, Rev. Donald P. Of Plymouth, died on Friday, November 25, 2022. Born and raised in Brighton, he was son of the late James and Julia (Daly) Clifford. Father Clifford is survived by his brother Timothy Clifford of Florida. He was known as uncle Donald or "UD" by his 20 loving nieces and nephews and many grandnieces and nephews. He was brother to the late Anna (Clifford) Murtagh and James and John Clifford. Ordained to the priesthood at Holy Cross Cathedral on February 1, 1961, Father Clifford's first assignment was at St. Joseph Parish in Amesbury. From Amesbury, he served as parish priest at St. Theresa of Lisieux in North Reading from 1968 to 1969 and then went to Newton's Sacred Heart in 1969, where he served for 10 years. In 1979, Father Clifford was assigned to a team ministry at St. Monica Parish, South Boston, where he was also administrator and parochial vicar. In 1984, he moved to Hyde Park where he was first administrator (1984-1985) and then pastor (1985-1992) of St. Joseph Parish. In 1998, Father Clifford became pastor of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Marshfield, where he remained for 15 years (his longest residence) until retirement in 2008, at which time he joined the senior priesthood at the Archdiocese of Boston. After leaving Marshfield, Father Clifford continued serving the church by filling in at parishes in Plymouth and surrounding areas. Funeral Services will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Church, 40 Canal Street in Marshfield, where the Wake will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2022, followed by Interment in the Evergreen Cemetery, Brighton.
