Although we have only known and worked with Ed for the past year, his insight, creativity and commitment to addressing the COVID pandemic have been truly inspiring. Ed, was a great scientist, full of ideas, a good mentor, and overall a good person. I will always treasure the many times i went to his office to seek some scientific answers to technical problems and how Ed will make sure I had the information I needed. He was very passionate about his work and providing solutions to human problems, and most of his ideas turned into products that now help the world tackle public health challenges. He definitely left a mark on this planet.

Ed always had innovative ideas and such a down to earth man, full of energy, always smiling, a good teacher. He earned the respect of others through his honest work in science and personality. He will be missed for sure. My condolences to his family.

I am deeply shocked to hear of Ed´s sudden passing. Everyone says he was a highly respected person. He helped me so much through joint development with Waters. Ed loved staying in Kyoto and was looking forward to next coming in spring... Ed-san, I will miss you.

Ed was a wonderful person. He was a wonderful friend, colleague, and mentor to me. I started working with him when he joined Waters. Our adventures through many product development cycles together were a significant part of my long-standing career at Waters. I enjoyed his sense of humor, his scientific approach to almost everything, and his grace in accepting all things good and bad. I am grieving with all of you who cherished his friendship. Ed was always present when you needed him. He was a curious scientist whom reached beyond his comfort zone to acquire knowledge, converting the science into information that was available to the broader Waters community. As the pandemic challenged all of us Ed worked diligently to insure the Waters community had the science to help protected them from infection. He pushed forward in these efforts while he struggled with his cancer. My journey with Ed was short, his impact on my life will be everlasting. My best wishes to Ed's Family. With deep respect.

Whether it was at golf, beer, coffee or work, Ed was always full of life and approached everything with a fantastic sense of humor, he was a great man to share time with. I was so lucky to have Ed as my manager for the first ten years of my career at Waters. He was intelligent, kind, and generous. Ed set an example for me as a scientist and as a person. He was a good friend of mine. I can't believe that last year was the last time we said "Happy Birthday" to each other.

I have such wonderful memories of Ed. Not only was he talented in his field, he had the friendliness smile you could simply not ignore. His smile was even brighter as he spoke of his family and how proud he was of his children. I will miss you-

It doesn't feel right that Ed who has been pushing so many scientific boundaries, had to loose this unfair fight against multiple myeloma.
I am so grateful for spending very nice moments with such an intelligent and nice man. We at Waters own it to him to keep pushing the boundaries to cure more diseases though while remaining humble and be so kind as Ed.

Words feel inadequate to express the sorrow of losing Ed, and I offer my deepest condolences to his family. I worked closely with Ed for many of his 29 years at Waters. He was a friend and confidant. His intelligence and hard work made possible some of the company's biggest successes. I was proud to nominate him for the company's highest technical recognition, becoming a member of the Jim Waters Society, a group that he chaired until recently. Ed will be deeply missed by his friends and coworkers.
