Rest in Peace Fr. Ed. Though I only knew and prayed for you through Sister M. Kathleen you became a large part of my life. You are in the Lords embrace now and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved you so well. Debbie Johnston

Fr. Ed O'Flaherty taught many of us freshman world history at Cheverus High School in the late 50's/early 60's. He was an outstanding teacher in the finest traditions of Jesuit education: great sense of humor, cutting wit(especially if one was unprepared), and a genuine interest in the welfare of his students.
Known affectionately as "The Big O", Fr. O'Flaherty earned our respect not only in the classroom but also on the football field with his 40-yard perfect spirals as well as his sharp elbows under the basket while playing for the faculty team.
He advised us that we could not consider ourselves truly educated unless we knew the date of the Hegira.
We regret his passing and will remember him with profound gratitude for the role he played in our lives.
Godspeed "Big O" and thank you.
(622 AD, we remember)

My family had the pleasure of knowing Fr. O'Flaherty through his work at St. Paul's Parish in Hingham. He was a wonderful priest who's celebration of the Mass was inspiring, and his homilies always enriching. He will be remembered fondly for his warmth, wisdom and holiness.
