EDWARD WEBB Obituary

WEBB, Edward A. Of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, formerly of Reading, MA, passed away on December 17, 2020 at his daughter's home in Reading surrounded by his loving family. He was 84 years old. Ed was born in Stoneham, Massachusetts on December 12, 1936, the son of the late William P. and Helen (Turner) Webb. Ed graduated from Reading High School in 1954 and from Northeastern University in 1959 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked for Sylvania Lighting Products for 36 years where he developed energy-efficient lightbulbs for which he holds several patents. Ed was very proud of being a Master Mason of the Good Samaritan Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Reading and a 60-year member of the Old South United Methodist Church in Reading. Ed was able to retire early in 1992 and traveled with his wife Ruth and dear friends creating priceless memories. Ed and Ruth moved to Rust Pond in Wolfeboro, NH in 1993. Ed was an environmentalist before his time, regularly monitoring the precious Rust Pond water quality several times a year for over 50 years. He drove his boat on Rust Pond for sunset lake cruises, including a final cruise this summer. He enjoyed working on construction projects both at his homes in Reading and in Wolfeboro. Ed loved carpentry, climbing ladders, sanding and painting, pressure washing, planting, trimming bushes, and driving his John Deere tractor while working on his endless list of projects. Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth (Campbell) Webb with whom he celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 16th, 2020. Cherishing his memory are his daughter Donna-Ruth Yost and husband Edward of (Acton, MA); son Douglass E. Webb and wife Elaine (of Reading, MA); daughter Dianne Meyers and husband John (Reading, MA); and son Daniel W. Webb and wife Rochelle (Reading, MA). Ed is also survived by his sisters Virginia Gerade (Reading, MA) and Barbara Nelson (Wolfeboro, NH). Ed leaves his living legacy in his 12 grandchildren who affectionately knew him as "Papa": Ruthie, Ray, and Ryan Yost; Benjamin, Christopher, Alexander, and Parker Webb; William, Wendy, and Wyatt Meyers; and Tommy and Steven Webb. Graveside services for Ed will be private due to pandemic precautions. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Ed's memory to The Michael J. Fox Foundation at the following link under Edward Webb: https://tribute.michaeljfox.org/tribute-page.php?id=1770&np=true. Ed survived with Parkinson's Disease for 25 years and was a pioneer with Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) implants. Helpful to the end, he has donated his brain for Parkinson's research. Arrangements for Ed are under the direction of the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home, READING, MA. Visit www.johnbdouglassfuneralhome.com for the online guestbook.

Dear Ruth and family, it has been many years since we have been in touch but my memories of Ed go all the way back to Pearl Street School. We were seated alphabetically and Eddie always sat in front of me, Ginny White. I have many memories of him as a young man and later on at our Class of '54 reunions. He was a wonderful man and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. I just lost my dear husband, Dick, in September so do know the feeling of terrible loss. Sending prayers to all of your lovely family.
Sincerely,
Ginny Anderson

Ed has had a tough battle for many years. He was a great classmate. He always had a smile. I have a son-in-law with the same disease. Blessings to all the family and Ruthie.

Dear Ruth, So sorry to hear of Ed's passing. It has been many years since we have been in touch but I have many fond memories of our relationship with you and Ed. Of course Mel, if alive would remember Reading High School days and those daily shared rides to Northeastern and many talks together. Many times at Rust Pond with our families. And for me, those many days sewing drapes with you. Those were the days.
God bless you and your family during these trying times. I will be thinking of you, It is so hard to loose our loved ones.
