Eleanor Curran Obituary

Age 80, beloved wife of the late Judge Hugh Cunningham Curran, of Milford entered into eternal life at Milford Hospital, on Saturday, December 2, 2006. She was born and raised in Cambridge, MA on April 29, 1926 and was the daughter of the late James Michael and Mary Reagan. She was predeceased by her son, Jack, and her daughters Kathleen and Nancy. She is survived by her five children, Maura Breen and her husband, Jay and their son Ryan, Mary Pat Healy and her husband, Peter and his children, Sarah, Kateri, Peter and Mary, son Hugh and his wife, Carol and their children Olivia, Hugh Michael and Jack Reagan, daughters M. Kate and Mary Ellen. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law Dorie & Bob Tassinari, sister-in-law, Nona and husband Bernie Clark, brother-in-law Bill and wife Marie Curran and many nieces and nephews. She was a 1947 graduate of Regis College, Weston, MA with a degree in Home Economics. She and Hugh were married in 1952 and moved to Bridgeport where they started their family and careers. She taught Home Ecomonics at Bassick High School for several years and then left to raise their children. In addition to her family life, Eleanor partnered with Hugh in serving the City of Bridgeport, a city which they both loved so deeply. Being a Mom was most important, but she still found time to be very generous of her self to many local charities throughout the community. So when her children were finally grown up, Eleanor embarked on a new career working for Fairfield County Real Estate giving her the opportunity to meet new people every day and share their stories with everyone. Upon leaving Bridgeport, Hugh and Eleanor built a lifetime of friends and community at Laurel Beach. At the heart of Eleanor's life was her true devotion to her husband, her children, her family, her friends, and her religion. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 6 at 10:30 AM in St. Ann's Church, 501 Naugatuck Avenue, Milford. Interment to follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Tuesday (TODAY) from 3 to 8 PM in the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street on the Green, MILFORD, CT. Memorial contributions may be made to the Childrens Hospital Trust, 1 Autumn St, #731, Boston, MA 02215-5301 or www.giving.childrenshospital.org www.codywhitefuneralservice.com

To all the Curran Family,

I was so sad to hear of your mother's death. What a loss for all of us left behind. She was a wonderful person, kind, funny, intellectual, and very much a lady.

I enjoyed talking with both of your parents on many occasions at my father's practice in CT. I was Dr. Keogh's nurse, until I moved to Tennessee this past Spring.

Your parents talked a lot about how proud they were of their children, and how much they loved them.

Your mother put her husband, & children ahead of herself, not just for sacrifice or duty, but out of love. When Judge Curran died, she was at a loss, but showed determined strength. Even though her children were going through the loss of their father, they never missed a beat showing their support for her. She told me how much that meant to her, & how greatful she was for them.

I truely admired her. Meeting her (and many family members) changed my life. She was loving, like a mother, to me too.

Fondly,

Kerry (Keogh) Gluck

Eleanor was a very special person. Whenever I saw her she always had a very kind word for me. I will never forget her helping Nancy and me find a house to buy before we got married.

I am deeply sorry for your loss.
