My brother and I just recently thought of our old Karate classes with Elliott and then sadly learned of Elliott's passing. We both benefited from Elliott's wisdom, kindness and encouragement throughout the years that we took karate classes with Elliot in the Pine Hill gymnasium. He left a lasting impression, more so than most teachers I've ever had. And as a female I'm grateful for the awareness of body, strong abs, and defense skills that Elliott helped me to cultivate. Thank you for being a positive guiding force in my world, my brother's world and so many others, Elliott.

Rick and I will never forget our trip to Gettysburg with Elliot -a great travel companion. He laid his hands near my back and took my back pain away. We will miss him. Our thoughts are with you.

We had the pleasure of knowing Elliot as members of the 22nd MVI. We will always remember Elliot as the unique, creative individual he was. He brought his sense of humor to the nightly camp fires and entertained us all with his stories. His strength of character, as one of our Sergeants, guided us on the battlefield at many a reenacting event. He will be missed, but not ever forgotten. To all his family and friends, you have our deepest sympathy at your great loss.

What Elliott taught me will stay with me forever. Elliott was a part of the dearest pieces of my childhood and teenage years, he was the kindest and most passionate man I've ever met. I will miss him with all of my heart and wish that I could be with him now to say so. To all of his other friends and family, you have my fullest support and I wish you all well.

Elliott was a truly unique person. I have many memories of him, and I have often benefited from what he taught me in martial arts, even though I was not his student for very long.
While I received a great deal from Elliott, I am most grateful to him for what he did for my son, whose entry speaks for itself. I will always appreciate the contribution that he and Linda made to Josh's life.
Elliott will be missed, but his spirit will live on in the lives of all those who knew him as a friend and teacher.

I met Elliott in 1990 when I was a pimply, awkward 14-year-old who lacked confidence and maturity. For many of my high school years, I spent 15 hours a week with Elliott training, talking, teaching and laughing. This continued on into college and beyond.
Elliott not only taught me how to protect myself (literally), he also taught me how to teach, a gift which continues to serve me to this day. He also taught me a great deal about writing, which was a skill with which he was profoundly gifted.
He always said, "I will take you as seriously as you take yourself." This was his attitude with his students, and with everyone else he encountered. He taught me to take myself more seriously, to believe in myself and my abilities. He also taught me when NOT to be serious, and showcased a perfect model of how to be disciplined when that was called for, and how to enjoy life with frivolity when that was called for.
He was, indeed, a bohemian -- charasmatic, convoluted, contradictory. But he was also unfailingly honest, devoted, and loyal.
We had our differences over the years, especially in recent years, but buried the hatchet when I visited him earlier this year. I am glad I got the chance to mend fences with Elliott, who was, quite simply, the most influential man in my life outside of my father.
I got to offer condolences to Linda yesterday, and also want to extend them to all of you who knew Elliott, and miss him. I have been in shock the last two days, and truly feel I have lost not only a friend and teacher, but an important mentor -- the closest thing to losing a parent short of having a parent actually passing on.
Thank you, Elliott, for your devotion, courage, uniqueness, and devotion to being yourself. You taught me more than you know, and your teachings will live on.
Gassho Sensei.

Elliott, you were one of a kind -- I learned a lot from you both on the battlefield and off. From the meandering conversations on our way to events, to late nights around the fire by the company street... not to mention your wit and wisdom during poker, during football season... you will truly be missed. When I first joined reenacting, you taught me how to die without hurting myself. Over the years, you've also taught me a thing or two about how to live.
We'll set an empty chair by the fire for you, and raise our glasses high.

Elliott was proof that "the best thing about Tai Chi is Tai Chi friends." A student and colleague turned friend, our conversations ranged from the relative virtues of jujitsu and chin-na to the joys and sorrows of searching for the perfect mate. The Buddhist Diamond Sutra says, "Life is like a dream, a phantasm, a bubble, a dew drop, a flash of lightning." But this philosophy does not make a friend's passing any less painful. I miss you Elliott. May love and light guide you on your return to the Source.

We are so fortunate to have had Elliott as our karate teacher at Pine Hill School. My son Will really looked up to him and regarded him as a role model. This is a tremendous loss to our community, as well as to his students.
