January 13, 2013

dear mona, steve, and alyssa-
emma single handedly alleviated the vicissitudes of middle for me. while she herself had a unique impact on my life, the impact that she had was not unique to me. emma taught me to see the folly and make the best out of oppressive social conventions, in a stage where superficial expectations could be crippling. whether it was on the soccer field, basketball court, or a middle school dance floor (yikes), emma was the apple of my eye. despite the passing of years, and stages, the foundation of confidence that i developed through my friendship with emma at the pivotal pre-teen and early teen years will forever fuel me.
i miss her daily.

Dear Mona, Steven and Alyssa,

Its been a week and still seems unreal. I think of Emma and you everyday and of course Rachael does also. I have been looking at photos from graduation weekend and at the happiness on all our girls faces. They loved each other and always will... they shared such a special time in their lives... Emma will forever be with all of them. Thinking of all of you and keeping you in my prayers... With deepest sympathy

I am one of Emma's classmates. She was taking online courses at La Salle University and we happened to be in the same class when she passed. Our instructor notified us of the accident and I just wanted to express my condolences to her family. I could tell by the things she wrote that Emma was a very bright student and would have made an awesome speech pathologist one day. I went back and reread the interesting things she contributed to our class discussions. I know her mother played a role in her decision to become a speech pathologist. I am a mother of three children and so I am especially heartbroken for her parents. I hope hope many people will gather around them and blanket them with love and support. All of Emma's family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers. I pray God will ease your suffering in any little way possible, and I hope Emma's life & legacy will live on through the lives of others in a positive way.

With Love & Prayers...

Emma was a superstar in the classroom, both academically and socially. She would often stay after class to ask the most insightful questions, or chat further about something of particular interest to her. Emma's presence in the room helped make the environment welcoming and positive, with her great sense of humor and unconditional acceptance of others. She's the kind of student that gave so much energy back to her peers, and her teachers. Please know that all of her teachers and coaches are shocked and heartbroken by this tragic news, and extend our deepest sympathies to your family.

Hi Mona and Steven,

I posted on Thursday, but my heart has been so heavy. I would like to honor and memorialize Emma the best way that I know how. As the Co-Founder of the New York Women's Athletic League, Emma had just played with us on Monday night and we issued her a yellow NYWAL Basketball team t-shirt with the number 4. If you can see it in your heart to return the shirt to us, I would like to retire her number and frame it so that it can one day be displayed in our league's office as a testament to her life.

I know that this is a tough request, but I want to keep her memory alive in this league forever. Please think about it and if and when you can see it in your heart to fulfill our request, you can call me personally at (347) 901-0229. May God hold and keep your family during this time of sorrow.

June 15, 2012

Dear Mona, Steve and Allysa,

Our hearts will forever be with you in the sorrow and sadness of the unimaginable tragedy that has occurred.
Our hearts and spirits will forever be lifted by the joy and inspiration of seeing young Emma (?4th grade) perform a Karate Kata to music on the stage at Pierce, one of the youngest performers at an eclectic talent show. I will always remember the image of her focus, strength and grace as she created an original presentation out of her mastery of Karate.
That is only a glimpse, I am sure, of the amazing person she grew into, inspiring those around her by her grace of spirit, power of her strength and physical talents, and her courage to live life to its fullest.

Sincerely and with love,
Lynn Dreyfus and family

Dear Mona, Steve and Alyssa,

Emma and I shared many wonderful memories at Tufts. From hanging out in the dorms to hiking together as part of the Tufts Wilderness Orientation, from dressing up in ridiculous outfits to having sophisticated dinner parties, Emma was just the most fun, happy, relaxed and welcoming person to be around. She will be missed dearly, but the joy she brought to so many people will never be forgotten. My heart goes out to you and everyone who loves her. She will always be a part of my life and the life of every single Jumbo she touched.

Warmest regards,

Dear Mona, Steve and Alyssa,
Our hearts are aching for you. We are so sad about the loss of Emma and will miss her so much. We have many fond memories of her and she was an integral part of Jacob's life from kindergarten to the present. We have always been impressed by her self-assured presence, her inclusive warmth and kindness and her impish sense of humor. We will always think of her shooting hoops with her Dad, running around the soccer field with her friends and her confidence hanging with the boys as the only girl at the boys' birthday parties. We will always remember her kind welcoming of Paul when he was a new kid in Brookline. We always enjoyed our conversations with Emma as a fellow karateke. We have all been robbed of a truly amazing young woman and are so sorry for your loss. With love and sympathy, Suzanne, Harry, Jacob and Paul
