On my first visit to New York in 1963 as a sailor and somewhere in Port Elizabeth, my cousin Vicky and her husband Earnest invited me to their home for an unforgettable family Easter. Shortly after that a tour through the city had followed. I had the pleasure on visiting them many times after that. I constantly discovered a family that was glorified with love and care and a distinct kindness which made Earnest unique. I feel blessed that I have met him and great sorrow for my cousins loss.

Mr. Villas formed the base for my high school experience at North High. I learned so much from him, his musicality, his warmth, his integrity and his spirit will live on with me with great fondness always.
May his memory be a blessing.

I was in the North High Band, graduating in 1961. I will always remember Mr. Villas for his kindness and consideration. May his family find comfort in the memory of this great human being.

Ernie Villas was a true humanist. He
and his beloved Vicki always thought and acted for their fellow
man. I grew up in Minneapolis with Ernie and witnessed firsthand his
wellspring of community activities.
I sang in his St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Choir in Minneapolis, and
many years later had the privilege
of singing in his beautiful choir
in The Church of Our Saviour in Rye, NY. As Ernie said to me "You
sang in Minneapolis; you'll sing in
New York". My wife, Helen, and I
extend our most heartfelt sympathies to Vicki and their two
sons.
Ernie was truly one of a kind!

While I was at the Great Lakes Naval boot camp I had just celebrated my first Thanksgiving away from home and I was down in the dumps.
I got a call informing me that I had a visitor at the main gate. I couldn't imagine who it might be as the Naval base is not on the way to anywhere.
When I got to the main gate I was pleasantly surprised to find my not yet brother in law, Ernie Villas.
He came all the way out there to lend his support and to bring me some gum. That's the kind of person he was and I will always cherish my relationship with Ernie. He exemplified the expression "love is not a feeling,it is a behavior."

Ernie Villas was a teacher, a leader and a mentor. Not a day has passed since we parted company in 1957 that I have not thought of him or used a phrase of his. He was such an integral part of my high school experience - marching band competitions, Raphael Mendez concerts and the orchestra performances. And I remember going with Carole Schneidman in his Studebaker to run errands for him, and he always managed to give us excuses for the classes we missed. I just want his family to know that others share their loss and remember him with such fondness and a few laughs. He was a special person to all who knew him and he blessed our lives. May he rest in peace.

To the Villas Family,
My mother, Jeanne Carlson Luchsinger went to high school with Ernest, along with my mother's sister, Doris Carlson Hohag. Doris played in the band and did some traveling with Ernest in their younger years. I learned of Ernest's passing thru my mom's brother, Russell, and I thought I would send my sympathies to you from the Carlson family. I'm sorry I never met Ernest, but thru my uncle Russ, I have now learned of Ernest. What a special man is was, and I am so glad my family had a connection with him. God bless you during this time of loss.

To the Villas Family: How very sorry I am to note that Ernie has passed away. We had many good times at our North High class of 42 Reunions the last 60 years, never received our class picture of the 60th, but will always remember Ernie as the high note of our life. My deepest sympathies to you.

I was one of Mr. Villas's North High Band students, and in my first year at North, he featured my oboe playing in The Italian in Algiers by Rossini. That was his last year of teaching band before he left Minneapolis to go to Boston and his new career. Our paths crossed once more at the U of Minnesota when he returned, as did many of us for the 100th anniversary of the band. Many past students and all the past living band directors came and conducted a piece. He was so happy to see me, and I was thrilled to work under his baton once again. A true humanitarian and a gentle kind dynamic man.

Dear Aunt Vicki, Lee & Dennis:
Sending you much love and sympathy during this very sad time. Uncle Ernie was not only a truely spiritual man but a devoted family man and friend who we were all so fortunate to know. Though his passing makes our world a sadder place to be I am sure the choir in heaven will be louder, stronger and on pitch and that heaven in general will be a brighter place. God's speed.
Love,

I grew up with Ernie Villas in Minneapolis, although he was several years older. His contribution to his church, alone, are tremendous, as well as other things he touched in his life. My sympathies to his family and freinds. May his memory be eternal.
