Mr. Stokes was always smiling on Sunday morning as the boys showed up for Sunday softball. We may not have had our "A" game, but Mr. Stokes & Mr. Pynn would make the day worth while. He was a wonderful friend and coach...Stoga, sorry I could not make the services. My prayers and thoughts to you and your family.

On the few occasions that I had the privilege to spend time with Mr. Stokes, I was left with the lasting impression of a man who had a great love of life and who knew what was truly important: family and friends. So sorry for your loss, and may his memory be eternal.

You will be greatly missed and remembered Mr. Stokes because you represent all that is good in the living, and it shows and will live on in the family you've created that exemplifies all that you stood for. I know you are so proud, and everyone including myself is better for having known you. Thank you Stoga for sharing a great father and friend with us. No denying a greater father, friend, and husband couldn't be had.

I had known of Mr Stokes from others around town. Without having yet met him, I could tell he was someone of substance and someone worth getting to know. I did get to know him sometimes in the early 90s, and yes, he came as advertised. He related to all, he was a leader, a doer and had a 'can do' attitude. He made the world a better place. God Bless.

Geoff loved life! Geoff loved people, stories, and tradition!
Geoff and the Stokes clan attended many Hickory Hawks Ski Club Golf / Banquet weekends in Glen NH. Geoff would request a golf cart with handicap flag so he could drive the cart just about anywhere on the course he wished. And he took every advantage driving the cart everywhere, even to the edge of the green. You could hear his laughter or commentaries from two holes away. Geoff loved the lobster & BBQ feast held in the evening. Marian and Geoff would wait patiently for the extra lobsters I stashed away for them.
I enjoyed visiting the Stokes house Xmas eve. Geoff would great us with stocking hat and the big Stokes smile! The family would be celebrating the first night of their annual 72hour marathon xmas weekend! I am pleased to announce the tradition will continue with Kayla leading the all night charge!
Umpy will be missed!

It's been some time since I last saw Mr. Stoga but I'll always remember his vintage smile and great sense of humor. Whether you saw him at the softball game or went by the house for a pool BBQ on Morrison St he always took the time to welcome you and make you feel special. I can remember one time long ago during one of their softball games they needed a pinch hitter and Coach Stokes was nominated for the task. "No Problem" He got a base hit and flew down to first. Big smile and all. God Bless you Mr. Stokes. You will be missed by many.

I am not known to be a morning person or a late morning person for that matter. However, for ten years I played softball double headers each and every Sunday morning in the summer and Mr Stokes was the reason.
I enjoyed talking to him about anything and everything. Whether it was sports, family, kids or life he was there to listen, share a beer and tell his stories.
Reading what others has wrote on this site it shows the impact he had on many people. He is appreciated and will be missed.

So sad to hear of the passing of Mr. Stokes. I have such fond memories of him from stopping by the home in Medford to the Boston Marathon water stops. He always greeted me with the same friendly smile, huge bear hug and the standard greeting "Walshie". He was the only one to call me that and I loved how he said it with such gusto. Mr. Stokes was always someone who made me smile. He loved Boston Marathon day and I would always look forward to seeing him. He made the tedious job of filling the water cups fun and always made us all laugh. It was great to be on his side of the street. He would laugh when we used the water cups for our beer. I was lucky to play a few rounds of golf with him and he gave me some pointers. I enjoyed stopping by the home in Medford. There was always lots of food, the tv on and you were always welcomed and treated like family.
Family was the most important thing to Mr. Stokes, he beamed with pride talking about his wife, children and grandchildren. No mere words will take away your sadness but I hope memories will bring you some comfort.
Marian, Karen, Michelle and Geoff, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this saddest of times.
Mr. Stokes, you will be missed.
Love always,
Walshie

Mr. Stokes (or "Stoker" as I called him) was sincerely one of the great ones, and will be immensely missed. I was around him quit frequently and I can honestly say I never saw him in a bad or negative mood a single time. He was always an engaging, fun-loving, character of immense proportions. No one loved being part of Medford civic pride more than he, from St. Francis CYO, to Mustang Football, to the softball years of IACC and Medford Men's League. Those of us who were fortunate enough to be around those teams know all too well the laughs and personality he brought to those experiences. (Bangor, ME has never been the same!) I count myself fortunate to have known a man of such kindness, personality, wit, loyalty, toughness, and character.
P.S. I have two quick funny stories. When I entered law school in the early 90's he nicknamed me "Sokolove", referring to the ambulance-chasing tv commercials of famed lawyer James J. Sokolove. The name stuck between us over the years, and it will always bring me a laugh when I see those commercials or hear that name.
The second one was during a flag football game about 15 years ago wherein, due to an injury, we needed a "live" body to suit up, so we went to the stands and drafted Stoker to play. He was well into his 60's at the time and the league was all 20 and 30 somethings. Anyway, Geoff Jr. pointed at the guy lined up against Stoker and politely (yeah right) warned him not to touch Stoker. The ball gets snapped and the opposing player tries to run around Stoker so as to avoid him, when Stoker proceeds to throw a forearm into the guys neck. His competitive spirit couldn't be contained. Too funny. He was one of a kind.

To the Stokes family, I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Stokes passing. We consider ourselves lucky to have known such a wonderful man and were honored when we were invited to the 50th Wedding Anniversary last year. You guys did such a great job putting that whole night together for your parents. What a wonderful memory! Mr. Stokes always had a kiss and a hug for me every single time I saw him and was always so happy to see all of Geoff's close friends together. We love you guys! Stay close.

I send my condolences to the Stokes family on your loss. I will never forget meeting the infamous bus at Carr Park before we made the trek to Foxboro and seeing Mr.Stokes meet us before we go with his Pats shirt on. His enthusiasm and energy was contagious. He was proud of his family and you were all proud of him as you should be. RIP my friend.

Mr. Stokes you will be missed. I will never forget that before every Pats home game you would meet us at Carr Park before we made the trek to Foxboro on the infamous bus with your Pats shirt on and get us all fired up for the game. It was great to see your energy and enthusiasm so early in the mornings. Your son is very proud of you as he should be. May you rest in peace my friend.

Pops, you will be forever in my heart. There will be lots of tears but more smiles. I enjoyed your phone calls of football pool harassment more than you will ever know. You always made me laugh and you always will. Love you!! Mo

I always loved seeing Mr. Stokes at the Boston Marathon. We had so much fun working at the water station and he kept us laughing all day with his funny one-liners! He was a wonderful dad and I know he will be greatly missed, but his spirit will live on through all his chips off the old block!

His smile and laugh always lit up whatever room or ball field we happened to be in or on. Whether he was driving us to practice, golf in Middleton, Pappoose Pond or UMass the ride was always the best part of the trip! Tough as nails but a true gentleman, family man, and a lifelong friend. Thank you for all the great memories!

When I think of "Pa Stokes", I smile. Remember the Boston Marathon and all of the cups and water that he so nicely set aside while our team captain watched in amused horror? I think of him in his flagged golf cart at the annual golf banquet, making fun of my plaid "Rodney Dangerfield" golf pants! I loved going to the Stokes family celebration on Christmas eve - Geoff Sr would wear his Santa hat and make everybody laugh all night long. He was a great husband / dad with a terrific sense of humor and love of life. Everybody loved him! Even my daughter who only met him once remembers him fondly as the guy who shared all of his Bit O Honeys with her at their pool. I will miss him dearly.
Marian, Geoff, Karen, and Michelle, I hope that all of the wonderful memories you have help you through this very difficult time.

I knew I was part of the family when you felt comfortable enough to walk around the house in your tighty whiteys in front of me on the family trip to Long Beach Island. I was especially honored to be a part of the family when you were happier than me that I won a Longest Drive trophy at the Hawks Golf Tournament in NH,you were so proud that a "Stokes" won. You sincerely welcomed me into the family and will forever be in my heart. Love, Laurie
