HAROLD M. FINCH

Finch, Harold M.
A resident of Newton, died on Monday (July 30) at the age of 99.& Mr. Finch was born in Boston to English parents and was the youngest of seven children, all of whom he survived.& After attending the Wentworth Institute he joined his father and brother in managing the Finch Engraving Company, from which he retired in 1988. As a medic with the 94th Infantry Division, he landed in Normandy in September 1944, participated in the siege of Lorient and saw action in the Battle of the Bulge.& Mr. Finch, joined by his late wife Ruth, whom he married after returning from the war, was among the original members of Temple Shalom of Newton, longtime member of the B'nai Brith, and generous contributor to many charities.& His interests included stamp collecting, painting, and above all the game of bridge, which he played with a regular group of friends every Monday night for well over sixty years.& Survivors include daughter Miriam Lerman and her husband Mike of South Bend IN, sons Henry and wife Pat of Newton, David and wife Betsy of Glen NH, and Andy of Washington DC.& Mr. Finch was the loving grandfather of Sarah, Aaron, Nathan, Naomi, Rena, Ilana, Kelton and Ben, and the proud great-grandfather of seventeen.
