My belated but heartfelt condolences to all your family on the loss of Harvey. He was a delightful and engaging human being, demonstrated again and again with customers of all sorts in the hardware store over the years. He undeniably choose the right profession for himself at such a young age with this wonderful way of walking in the world!

Our family moved to the area 23 years ago, found Harvey´s and made weekly visits as a family. Harvey always had a tootsie pop for the kids! Then one day, he had one for me, when the kids were too old. Deepest sympathies, the Young family

Going into Harvey´s was always a pleasure- always a friendly greeting and offer of assistance. Harvey was a joy to deal with as well as his two wonderful sons. We have moved from Needham and will never encounter a store like Harvey´s. May he rest in pease knowing the world was a better place with him in it.

Harvery was, you will remember, my second cousin. His grandfather Herman Katz and my grandfather Max Cohen of Chicago (born Mendel Katz) were brothers and both born in Zasliai, Lithuania. They were the sons of Zalman and Ita (nee Heller) Katz. Harvey and his children were all very kind when we got to meet you the summer of 2005 while our daughter danced with the Boston Ballet. The attached photo was taken in Miami Beach, Florida and is (from left to right) Harvey's grandmother Sonya (Sophie) Kovenskiy Katz, my mother Evelyn Ruth Cohen (also later married a man named Cohen), my grandmother Mayme Burton Cohen, and Mrs. Frank Milner of Trenton, NJ. Both Harvey's grandfather Herman (born Naftali Hertz) Katz and my grandfather Max Cohen died in 1941. Frank Milner was a first cousin of both Herman and Max.

Harvey was one of the first people we met when we moved to Needham 30 years ago, and were making frequent visits to the store to get hardware items for our first home. He was always so helpful and pleasant. Over the years, we enjoyed our encounters.
Harvey was a fixture in our community and will be missed!
Sending the family our sincerest condolences as you mourn his passing.
Sincerely,
Amy and Howard Goldman

I will never forget when we moved to the area 22 years ago and Mr. Katz helped me find everything I needed for our new household. He greeted me as I struggled to balance the mop and broom and said, "new house?" He reminded me of my own father (whom I missed dearly) and for many years I enjoyed our conversations and his sense of humor too. I always left the store with what I was looking for and so much more...a smile and a full heart. We are so sorry for you loss.

30 years ago, we were new parents, new to Needham and first time home owners. I can´t remember the first problem I brought to Harvey, but I distinctly remember he solved it and did not make me feel (too) stupid. I never stopped coming back to the store, even when I didn´t actually need anything. He was extraordinary and always made you feel so well cared for. May his memory be a Blessing....

I am so sad to hear about Harvey. My history with the Katz Family goes back to summer camp in Maine. When I moved to Needham...my day was always made with a trip to Harveys, for something...to nothing but a "chat" . He made me smile every time I saw him. Even when I moved to NH...I still came. He was certainly something special...always will be, in my heart, always. My love and condolences to the whole Family. Wow, What a huge loss.
