JANICE LIVA Obituary

LIVA, Janice B. Of Weston and Chatham, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 following a rare illness that she bravely fought for the past 20 years. She passed in the arms of her loving husband, Kevin G. Tubridy of Weston with whom she shared a 40 year love story. Born in Medford, MA on January 29, 1953, she was a daughter of Lorraine (Loanes) Liva of Tyngsboro and the late Joseph A. Liva. She was educated at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Suffolk University Law School, with supplementary course work at the Georgetown University Law Center. Jan worked as Deputy General Counsel for BankBoston and its successor companies. She had a love for life and a boundless curiosity. This translated into a passion for numerous pursuits, including researching the ancestral history of friends and family and chronicling their stories in beautiful and thoughtful written narratives. She was the keeper of a unique collection of antique coins with a particular focus on early American pennies. Jan loved boating and fishing aboard her vessels MoonShadow and Foggy Bottom and, when not on the water, spending time at her beautiful home in Chatham and tending its gardens or experimenting with her joy of photography. There were so many tokens of her talent that she gave to her family in the form of hand knitted scarves, homemade American Girl clothing, memory books that documented the lives of the children in the family and annual commemorative silver dollars. She was an avid lover of the outdoors having spent countless hours skiing, golfing and walking whenever possible. Jan also found great joy in reading and loved a good novel or an insightful history of the American Revolution in New York and New England. She thoroughly enjoyed developing creative ideas for charitable giving and became a living example to the children in the family in the pursuit of such efforts. Jan loved the younger generation and enjoyed gently challenging them to be critical thinkers. Her kindness, ready smile, warm laughter, welcoming manner and strength of character, not to mention beautiful brown eyes, will be missed by all. In addition to her husband and mother, Jan is survived by her siblings, Joe Liva and his wife, Nancy of Tyngsboro, MA and Franconia, NH, Cathy Levesque and her husband, Gary of Chelmsford, Christine Smith and her husband, Christopher of Westford; her mother and father-in-law, Kevin G. Tubridy, Sr. and Elaine B. Tubridy of Wantagh, NY; her brothers and sisters-in- law Gary Tubridy and his wife, Erica of Vero Beach, FL, Brian Tubridy and his wife, Mary Jane of Wantagh, NY; her beloved nieces and nephews, Laura, Elizabeth, Janelle, Catherine, Joey, Zoe, Olivia and Lauren as well as an amazing circle of friends. Jan was the sister of the late Carole Liva. Relatives and friends are invited to Jan's Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 11 AM in St. Mary Church, 25 North Road, Chelmsford. Interment will be held privately. Again, I remember this date each year as I was shocked by Jan's passing. Jan was an amazing presence in my life and I continue to hear her words often. I was honored to be her secretary at the Bank of Boston for many years. Today, I am 65 years old and I met Jan when I was in my twenties. She taught me so much, cared about me, had so many great laughs and many great talks with her. I think of Jan often and we both loved the song "The Brown Eyed Girl". She was a gem !!! Sending Jan a picture of my girl Katie and I at her wedding last August. I know she would love it. My love to Kevin.

I am so sorry to hear of Jan's death. I was just looking her up as I knew she was near me in Chatham and have not seen her for many years. I was her secretary at Bank of Boston and she was a dear mentor to me. The best boss I ever had!!! She was not just an amazing attorney, professional and intelligent, but my very dear friend. I am so sorry Kevin and shocked to read of her loss. I will always remember her first, as my friend. Nancy Clarke
